New Haven, Conn. – Kenneth Barrett (Wantagh, N.Y.) became the first men's athlete to win a track event at the ECAC Championship on Wednesday, winning the 5,000-meters, and
Samantha Papadopoulos (Smithtown, N.Y.) broke her own school record in the Triple Jump as the Mount Saint Mary College Men's and Women's Track teams opened competition at the ECAC Championship Meet.
Barrett continued his standout career at the Mount on Wednesday with a win for the Mount in the 5,000-meters in a time of 16:28.26. He won the race by just over nine seconds for the first win on track for the Knights in program history.
Papadopoulos also continued a stellar spring with a school record for the Mount in the Triple Jump. Seeded fifth in the event, Papadopoulos posted a mark of 10.45 meters to finish in second place in the event. Her leap on Wednesday bested her own pervious school record of 9.54 meters set on April 3.
Mount Saint Mary also got strong performances on Wednesday from
Dabein Walker (Wyandanch, N.Y.) and
Andrew Maloy. Walker scored a third place finish in the Javelin before placing fourth in the Triple Jump with marks of 44.60 meters and 12.89 meters. Maloy took the runner-up position for the Knights in the Hammer Throw with a mark 35.76 meters.
Mount Saint Mary will close out the season on Thursday on Day Two of the ECAC Championship.
