Women’s Lacrosse Closes Regular Season Against USMMA, Manhattanville

Knights round out regular season with two home games

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team closes out the 2022 regular season with a pair of home games when it hosts USMMA on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Manhattanville Saturday at 12:00 p.m. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests at Kaplan Field.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary begins the final week of the regular season with an 8-5 overall record and a 1-4 mark in Skyline Conference play.
 
Senior Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) paces the Mount Saint Mary scoring attack with team-highs in goals with 40 and points with 53. Shalvey currently ranks fifth in the Skyline Conference in goals and seventh in points.
 
Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.), coming off an eight-point performance on Friday at Purchase, leads the team with 17 assists and is second on the team with 38 points. Ward, who ranks seventh in the conference in assists, also adds 12 draw controls, nine groundballs and five caused turnovers.
 
Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) and Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) support the offensive attack with 22 and 18 goals, respectively. Ferrucci leads the team in groundballs with 31 and is tied for the team lead with 17 caused turnovers to go along with 16 draws.
 
Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) has also forced 17 miscues for the Knights, adding 23 groundballs and three draw controls. Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) helps to stabilize the backline for the Mount with 15 caused turnovers to go along with 26 groundballs.
 
Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) holds the team lead in draw controls with 51 to go along with 16 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers. Lindsay supports the offensive attack with six goals and eight points for the Knights.
In goal, Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) has been the starter in each of the Mount's 13 games to date and holds an 11.69 goals against average and a .466 save percentage. Petrellese has turned aside 103 shots thus far and adds 19 groundballs.
 
Scouting USMMA: The Mariners come calling on Wednesday winners of six straight and atop the Skyline Conference standings with a 9-2 overall record a perfect 5-0 mark against league rivals.
 
Five different players have scored at least 10 goals for USMMA led by 58 tallies and 82 points from Jessie Wohner. Jenna Turrentine and Julia Coughlin support the offense with 23 and 22 goals, respectively.
 
Maddie Schmidt leads the way in caused turnovers with 34 and draw controls with 64, while Jaqui Sheedy has collected a team-high 38 groundballs.
 
Hope Germanakos has started each game in the cage for the Mariners and is sporting a 7.55 goals against average and a .466 save percentage while stopping 62 shots.
 
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary has won just once in five meetings with the Mariners, a 12-9 victory on the road on April 19, 2017.
 
Previewing Manhattanville: The Valiants enter a Wednesday tilt with St. Joseph's-L.I. at 3-8 overall and 2-3 in Skyline Conference play.
 
Manhattanville features three players with at least 20 goals on the season, led by 25 from Lara Keenan. Marisa D'Angelo and Kerry Carr have tallied 21 and 20 goals, respectively with Carr leading the team with 30 points. Maura Kelly paces the Valiants with 11 assists and is second on the squad with 29 points.
 
In addition to leading the team in points, Carr sits atop the team leaderboard in draw controls with 61 and adds 16 caused turnovers and 26 groundballs. Kelly paces the team in forced miscues with 32 and chips in 38 draw controls.
 
Britney Sirota has started all 11 games for the Valiants to date and holds a 13.36 goals against average and a .412 save percentage. Sirota has made 103 saves and leads the team in groundballs with 39.
 
Recent History: The two teams have met five times since the start of the 2014 season with Manhattanville securing three victories. The Valiants have won each of the last two meetings with the Mount's last triumph coming in a 14-13 decision on March 22, 2016 in Newburgh.
 
What's Next: The top six teams in the conference standings will qualify for the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship which gets underway on May 3.
