Kings Point, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Track and Field team placed third on Sunday at the 2022 Skyline Conference Championships. The Knights totaled 105 points at the meet and won three events.
Samantha Papadopoulos (Smithtown, N.Y.) won both the 100 and 400-meter hurdle events, setting a new school record in the 100-meter race.
Papadopolous had a big day for the Knights, winning the two hurdle events and taking second in both the Long and Triple Jumps. Papadopoulos won the 100-meter hurdle event by better than a second, posting a time of 17.08 seconds and topping her own pervious school mark of 17.23 seconds. In her second win of the day, Papadopoulos won the 400-meter race by nearly 13 seconds, completing the event in 1:12.76.
In the field events, Papadopoulos took the runner-up position in the Long and Triple Jumps. She posted a mark of 4.83 meters in the Long Jump and made a leap of 9.84 meters in the Triple Jump.
KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) also had a strong day in the field for the Mount, taking second in the Discus, third in the Javelin and fourth in the Shot Put. Her runner-up mark was a toss of 27.30 meters while posting marks of 24.33 meters in the Javelin and 8.10 meters in the Shot Put.
On the track the 4x100-meter relay team of
Jessica Kerrigan (Howard Beach, N.Y.),
Joanne Kubat (Williston Park, N.Y.),
Ashlyn Rivera (Ellenville, N.Y.) and Platt scored a victory with a time of 59.99 seconds.
Rivera finished off a strong day for the Mount with a third place finish in the 1,500-meters and a fourth place showing in the 5,000-meters.
Priya Patel (Ozone Park, N.Y.) scored a third place finish in the 800-meters in 2:48.10, while Alyssa Millburn (Middlebury, Conn.) placed fourth in the 400-meters.
Following Sunday's strong performance, Mount Saint Mary will be back in action on April 28 at the Army West Point Twilight Meet.
