Knights Open Skyline Conference Play Against Farmingdale State

MSMC back in action for first time since March 18

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team opens Skyline Conference play and returns to action for the first time since March 18 when it hosts Farmingdale State Wednesday night. Opening Draw with the Rams is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with Live Stats and Video available for those who are unable to attend.
 
At A Glance: The Mount enters Wednesday's tilt winners of its last five contests and at 6-1 overall. In its last outing, the Mount posted an 11-9 win over Marywood back on March 18.
 
Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) is one of four Knights with at least 10 goals on the season, pacing the team in markers with 24 and points with 30. In the midst of a strong all-around season, Shalvey chips in 10 groundballs, six caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. Shalvey enters the week tied for the league lead in goals and ranks tied for fifth in points.
 
Ashley Giorgi (Danbury, Conn.) is second on the team with 14 goals and is third on the squad with 15 points. Giorgi adds six groundballs and seven draw controls for the Knights. Victoria Ward (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Karlie Ferrucci (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) support the offensive attack with 10 goals apiece. Ward leads the team with nine assists and is second on the team with 19 points.
 
Kate Crooker (Boonton, N.J.) leads the Knights with 17 groundballs and has caused eight miscues, while Maggie Horan (Stony Point, N.Y.) anchors the defense with 10 caused turnovers and 10 groundballs. Ferrucci has collected 15 groundballs for the Mount while Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) sits atop the team leaderboard with 27 draw controls.
 
In goal, Liz Petrellese (Levittown, N.Y.) has started all seven contests and has played 335:21 of a possible 422:31. She holds a 10.91 goals against average and a .474 save percentage while making 55 stops. Petrellese is fourth in the conference in save percentage, third in total saves and sixth in goals against average.
 
Mount Saint Mary enters the conference opener ranked fourth in the league, scoring 11 goals per game, third in save percentage (.457) and fourth in goals against average (10.79).
 
Scouting The Rams: Farmingdale State pays a trip to Newburgh on Wednesday coming off a 16-3 loss to Kean on Saturday and with a 2-6 overall record. The Rams have lost their last two contests and four of the last five overall.
 
Athena Vogiatzis leads the team in goals with 16 and has totaled 17 points through eight contests, while Megan Diamond paces the team with 12 assists and 22 points. Diamond enters the week tied for second in total assists in the conference.
 
Anna Zaborowska sits atop the team leaderboard with 23 caused turnovers and 33 groundballs while Diamond has won a team-high 35 draw controls. Diamond currently ranks third in the conference in draws with Zabaorowska leading the league in both caused turnovers and groundballs.
 
Ronnie Reilly is the only goalie to see time for the Rams through eight games as she holds a 13.63 goals against average and a .444 save percentage. Reilly leads the Skyline Conference with 87 saves through eight games.
 
Farmingdale State ranks sixth in the conference in scoring with 6.38 goals per game.
 
Recent History: Since the start of the 2010 season, the Knights' first varsity campaign, Mount Saint Mary and Farmingdale State have met 15 times with the Rams coming away victorious on each occasion. The two teams last met on April 9, 2021 with Farmingdale State posting a 19-3 victory in Newburgh.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will continue Skyline Conference play on April 5 when it welcomes Maritime to Kaplan Field.
