Marlboro, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams opened the 2022 Outdoor Season Saturday with the MSMC Invitational.
Samantha Papadopoulos (Smithtown, N.Y.) and
Dabein Walker (Wyandanch, N.Y.) each collected individual victories for the Knights.
Walker had a big day for the Mount, winning the High Jump and adding a runner-up finish in the Triple Jump, a fourth place showing in the Long Jump and a sixth place finish in the Javelin. Walker won the High Jump with a mark of 1.70 meters to go along with a mark of 6.05 meters in the Long Jump, 12.01 meters in the Triple Jump and 36.86 meters in the Javelin.
Anthony Acosta (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and Jesse Hull (Mahopac, N.Y.) also had strong days for the Mount in the field events. Acosta posted a third place finish in the Triple Jump with a mark of 11.98 meters and a fifth place showing in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.92 meters. Hull finished 10
th for the Mount in both the Javelin and the Shot put with marks of 31.89 meters and 9.06 meters, respectively.
On the track,
Kenneth Barrett (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded a seventh place finish for the Mount in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:56.54.
In the women's meet, Papadopoulos took the win in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.74 seconds and added a runner-up finish in the Long Jump and a seventh place showing in the 800-meters. Her 800-meter run came in 2:45.74 while posting a mark of 4.22 meters in the Long Jump.
Joanne Kubat (Williston Park, N.Y.) took fifth for the Knights in the 100-meter hurdles, following Papadopoulos in a time of 21.22 seconds.
Victoria Vicioso (Englewood, N.J.) posted a second place finish it the High Jump with a mark of 1.35 meters with
KellyAnn Platt (Staten Island, N.Y.) taking seventh in the Javelin and eighth in the Discus with results of 17.65 meters and 26.30 meters, respectively.
Jessica Kerrigan (Howard Beach, N.Y.) also had a strong meet, placing fourth in the Long Jump with a leap of 3.83 meters.
Following Saturday's season opener, the Knights will be back in action on April 3 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
