Knights Swim To Eighth Place Finish At Diamond City Invitational

Masayda finishes fourth in 200-yard breaststroke

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team completed the 2022 Diamond City Invitational in eighth place with 437 points on Sunday. Kitty Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) led the way with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke for the Knights.
 
On Saturday, in Sessions II and III, the Mount picked up six top-10 finishes, including two each from freshmen Grace MacHugh (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Cayla Nicholas (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.). MacHugh claimed 10th place for the Mount in the 500-yard and 200-yard freestyle races with times of 5:50.80 and 1:10.97. Nicholas closed out a strong day with a ninth place showing in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.84 seconds and a 10th place effort in the 100-yard butterfly, producing a time of 1:10.97.
 
Masayda scored the team's best individual finish on Saturday after placing sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:15.98. Masayda also added a 14th place swim for the Mount in the 200-yard individual medley after touching out in a time of 2:33.12.
 
Stefanie Sommer (Monroe, N.Y.) closed out a strong Saturday with a 14th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and a 16th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Kristen Dwight (Newfield, N.J.) earned a 19th place finish for the Mount in the 200-yard freestyle and a 21st place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, while Emily Gursky (Oakville, Conn.) claimed the 16th position in the 100-yard backstroke and the 20th spot in the 200-yard IM.
 
In relay action on Saturday, the team of Gursky, Masayda, Sommer and Nicholas produced a time of 1:51.52 in the 200-yard freestyle relay, good for a sixth-place finish.
 
On Sunday, the Knights closed out the three-day event in strong fashion led by Masayda's fourth place finish. She posted the Mount's best finish of the weekend in the 200-yard breaststroke after swimming a time of 2:45.42.
 
Nicholas finished off a strong weekend with a 12th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.88 seconds with Sommer claiming a 22nd place finish in the same event after posting a time of 1:05.61.
 
Gursky swam to a 14th place finish for the Knights in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:32.93 with Dwight following closely in the 15th position, producing a time of 2:38.61.
 
In the final relay event of the weekend for the Knights, the team of Nicholas, Dwight, Sommer and MacHugh swam to a time of 4:10.13 in the 400-yard freestyle event, good for an eighth-place finish overall.
 
Bridgewater claimed the tam crown on Sunday after finishing the event with 1,682 points.
 
Following a strong weekend, the Mount will close out the 2022 portion of the schedule at the two-day College of Staten Island Invitational beginning on December 2.
