Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team closed out competition at the Diamond City Invitational on Sunday in ninth place with a team total of 285 points.
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) and
Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) each produced top-10 individual finishes over the final two days of events.
Mount Saint Mary finished Saturday's middle two sessions in ninth place with 206 points following strong swims from Tagliareni. The graduate student posted a seventh-place finish for the Knights in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.23 seconds and added a 17
th place showing in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 23.40 seconds.
Atticus Salazar (Queens, N.Y.) turned in a 13
th place finish on Saturday in the 200-yard freestyle, with Williams swimming to an 18
th place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.
Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) followed Tagliareni in the 100-yard butterfly event, posting a 19
th place finish.
In relay action on Saturday, the group of Tagliareni, Lerner, Salazar and Williams posted a time of 1:44.88 in the 200-yard freestyle event, good for a ninth-place finish.
In Sunday's final session, Williams and Tagliareni both posted top-10 finishes for the Knights. Williams began the day with an eighth-place showing in the 200-yard backstroke with Tagliareni following that up with a 10
th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Williams completed his event in a time of 2:21.64 with Tagliareni touching out in the freestyle race in 50.75 seconds.
The Knights closed out the event with a ninth-place swim in the 400-yard freestyle relay with the team of Lerner, Tagliareni, Williams and Salazar completing the race in 3:56.90.
Bridgewater won the team event, accumulating 1,228 points over the course of competition.
Mount Saint Mary will compete in its final even of the 2022 portion of the schedule when it travels to the College of Staten Island for the two-day CSI Invitational December 2-3.
