Men’s Golf Sits Second After First Round Of Skyline Conference Championship

Ropiak closes first round in tie for fourth

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Golf team opened play in the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship Sunday and closed the round in second place with a team score of 321. Matthew Ropiak (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished the day with the team's low score, ending the day in a tie for fourth place.
 
Ropiak closed a strong day on Sunday with a First Round score of 76 on the par-70 Red Course at Bethpage State Park. Ropiak, who stands in a three-way tie for fourth place, finished the day with 12 pars and stands nine shots off the lead.
 
Playing in his first conference championship, Trevor Zamudio (Beacon, N.Y.) closed the day with a 78, sitting in a three-way tie for seventh place overall. Zamudio birdied the par-5 fifth hole on Sunday for one of just two birdies on the day for the Knights.
 
John Del Bene (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) carded an 82 on Sunday for the Mount, finishing with a birdie on the par-four 14th hole. Del Benne enters the Second Round on Monday in a seven-way tie for 13th place overall.
 
Rounding out the five-golfer field on Sunday were Chris Shea (Warwick, N.Y.) and Patrick Shea (Warwick, N.Y.). C. Shea enters the Second Round in 23rd place after finishing Sunday's round with an 85, while P. Shea sits in a tie for the 28th position after carding an 88 on Sunday.
 
Farmingdale State holds the First Round lead and is 29 shots clear of the Mount after posting a team score of 292 on Sunday. Brad Castadly holds the lead heading into Monday's Second Round, shooting a three-under par 67.
 
Monday's Second Round on the Red Course at Bethpage State Park is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
