Newburgh, N.Y. The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team will continue its fight for a berth into the 2022 Skyline Conference Championship with three league contests to close out the regular season. The Knights travel to Farmingdale State on Wednesday before hosting Purchase on Thursday and Sarah Lawrence on Saturday in the regular season finale.
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary is coming off a tight 5-4 road win at Manhattanville on Saturday and stands at 3-6 overall on the season and 1-2 against conference opponents.
Sadie McNair (Newburgh, N.Y.) leads the Knights with five singles victories heading into the final three regular season matches and has combined for 10 victories on the season, adding another five doubles wins. McNair has won at three different singles slots and teamed with three different doubles partners through nine matches.
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) checks in with four singles wins for the Knights, including three at the second position. Green is 2-0 in singles play against conference rivals and finished off the Manhattanville victory with wins at second doubles and second singles.
Mount Saint Mary enters the week a match out of the final conference championship berth with two of the final three matches against teams ahead of them in the standings.
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams enters Wednesday's match sitting in a tie atop the Skyline Conference standings with an 8-4 overall record and an unblemished 4-0 mark in league play. Farmingdale State has won its last three outings and four of its last five overall.
Recent History: In the last 17 meetings, the Knights hold an 8-9 record against Farmingdale State. The Knights won seven straight decisions from 2007-12, but the Rams have rallied for nine victories in the last 10 meetings. The Mount's last win in the series came in a 6-3 home win on October 3, 2017.
Previewing Purchase: Purchase enters a key conference match against St. Joseph's-L.I., the other unbeaten team in the league standings, with a 6-4 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play. The Panthers have won their last two matches and three of their last four overall.
Purchase features three players with at least six singles victories, led by a 7-3 mark from Elaina Coppola. Coppola has won twice at the fourth position and is a perfect 5-0 at fifth singles heading into Wednesday's match. Coppola has combined for 14 wins to date, adding seven victories at second doubles for the Panthers.
Sophia Cenatiempo and Nikita Kordzielewska have each won six singles matches for Purchase with Centatiempo splitting her wins between the second and third positions. Kordzielewska has won each of her six decisions at the top flight. The duo has also teamed for a 5-4 record at the top doubles flight for the Panthers.
Recent History: Since 2016, the Panthers hold a 5-2 record over the Mount. The Knights won back-to-back decisions over Purchase in 2019 and 2021, but Purchase rebounded for a 6-3 home win over the Mount last fall.
A Look At The Gryphons: Sarah Lawrence stopped a six-match losing streak on Tuesday with a 6-3 conference win over Manhattanville. Tuesday's victory improved the Gryphons to 2-6 overall and 1-3 against Skyline Conference rivals.
Recent History: Since 2007, the Knights have won six of the nine decisions with Sarah Lawrence. Mount Saint Mary won five straight matches in the series from 2016-21, but had the winning streak stopped last fall following an 8-1 road loss.
What's Next: The four-team Skyline Conference Championship commences on October 26 at the higher seeded team in each semifinal match.
