Women’s Tennis Travels To League Rival Manhattanville On Saturday

Knights searching for first league win of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team returns to action for the first time since October 8 on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Skyline Conference foe Manhattanville. Doubles matches are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary enters Saturday's match with a 2-6 overall record and an 0-2 mark in Skyline play. The Knights have dropped their last two decisions and are looking for their first win since a 5-4 triumph over Utica on September 21.
 
Sadie McNair (Newburgh, N.Y.) leads the Knights with a 4-4 singles record, winning matches at three different positions. McNair is 2-0 at the second slot and 1-1 at both the third and fourth positions through eight matches.
 
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) and Victoria Veloz-Vicioso (Englewood, N.J.) have each won three singles matches to date for the Mount. Green has two wins for the Knights at the second position and another victory at the top flight, while Veloz-Vicioso has two triumphs at the fifth position and another win at the sixth slot.
 
In doubles play, McNair also leads the way with four victories while playing with three different partners. McNair and Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) have teamed for a win at the top flight with McNair and Victoria Valenzia (Floral Park, N.Y.) teaming for a pair of wins at the middle position. McNair and Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) also have a win at the second position for the Knights.
 
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants are in search of their first win of the season and begin play on Saturday at 0-5 overall and 0-4 against league opponents. Manhattanville is coming off an 8-1 loss to cross-town rival Purchase on Tuesday.
 
Recent History: The Knights and Valiants have met four times prior to Saturday's meeting since 2011 with each team scoring a pair of wins. The Knights scored a 7-2 win on April 3, 2011 and edged the Valiants 5-4 in the most recent contest on October 7, 2021.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary plays host to Purchase on Monday evening before traveling to Farmingdale State on October 19.
