Swimming Returns To Action Against League Rivals Maritime, USMMA

Knights return to competition for first time since Dec. 4

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's and Women's Swimming teams will return to action for the first time since December 4 on Thursday when they travel to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to take on league rivals Maritime and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Events are scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m. with Live Video available.
 
Spectator Policy: Per Skyline Conference policy NO FANS will be permitted on tonight's meet.
 
MSMC Men At A Glance: The Knights enter tonight's meet with the Privateers and Mariners with a 1-4 overall record and an 0-2 mark against league rivals. In its last outing, the Mount dropped a tight 74-63 home decision to Purchase.
 
Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) topped the field for the Mount against the Panthers in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Lerner's freestyle victory came in 24.83 seconds and his butterfly triumph came in 1:02.09.
 
Williams scored wins for the Mount in the 200-yard individual medley as well as the 500-yard freestyle. His initial win came in a time of 2:27.41 before he posted a winning time of 5:57.21 in the longest event of the afternoon.
 
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) also turned in a strong meet for the Mount, scoring a victory in the 100-yard backstroke and taking the runner-up position in the 100-yard breaststroke. Tagliareni's victory came in 59.02 seconds before touching out in the breaststroke race in 1:13.20.
 
Atticus Salazar picked up a third place finish for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:49.42 and joined Williams, Lerner and Tagliareni on the winning 200-yard medley relay team that posted a first place time of 2:00.25.
 
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary has one win in the last 13 meetings with Maritime, with the lone victory coming in a 51-44 triumph on February 11, 2009.
The Knights are winless in four meets against the Mariners since USMMA rejoined the Skyline Conference for the 2016-17 season.
 
MSMC Women At A Glance: The Women's team returns to action with a 2-5 overall record, including a 1-2 mark in Skyline Conference competition. The Knights scored a 76-58 conference over Purchase in their last meet on December 4.
 
Jillian Bunch (Newburgh, N.Y.) picked up victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard freestyle against the Panthers. Her IM victory came in 2:30.05 before she topped the field in the freestyle race with a time of 1:00.50.
 
Katherine Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) continued her strong start to the season against Purchase with wins for the Knights in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke. The butterfly victory came in 1:09.47 before she won the breaststroke race in a time of 1:16.18.
 
Emily Gurskey (Oakville, Conn.) closed out a strong day for the Mount with a victory in the 100-yard backstroke and a runner-up finish in the 200-yard individual medley. She bested the field in the backstroke with a time of 1:13.12 and she finished behind Bunch in the IM in 2:44.44.
 
Kristen Dwight (Newfield, N.J.) and Emily Crowley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) each closed out the win with a pair of runner-up finishes. Dwight earned second place points in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle with times of 2:23.01 and 1:05.17, respectively. Crowley took the runner-up spot in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.18 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.80.
 
Mount Saint Mary opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Bunch, Crowley, Gursky and Masayda collected first place points in a time of 2:05.57.
 
Recent History: Mount Saint Mary holds a perfect 13-0 record against Maritime since the start of the 2007-08 season, while the Mount is in search of its first win in four tries against USMMA since the start of the 2016-17 season.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary will close out the dual meet portion of the schedule on Saturday when it welcomes William Paterson to the Kaplan Center Pool.
