Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis scored its second straight win to begin the season on Friday afternoon with a 7-2 non-conference road victory at Bard. The win gives the Mount two straight victories to begin the season for the second straight year.
For the second straight match, the Knights swept the doubles competition to open a 3-0 lead. The top pair of
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) and
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) rallied from a 1-4 deficit to score an 8-4 win for the Mount. The duo moved to a perfect 2-0 together in the early going of the fall.
Also moving to 2-0 was the second pair of
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and
Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.). The duo cruised to an impressive 8-0 victory on Friday. The third pair of
Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) and
Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) eased to an 8-2 win for the Knights against the Raptors.
The Knights went on to score victories in the second, third, fifth and six flights in the singles competition to clinch the win over the Raptors. Valencia moved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the fifth slot with Imperio posting a 6-2, 6-1 sixth singles victories.
Mount Saint Mary put the match away with victories at the second and third positions, courtesy of Flynn and Green. Flynn remained unbeaten in her career, moving to 2-0 on the season and 8-0 overall over the last two years, with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the second slot. Green dominated her third singles match, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
At 2-0 on the season, Mount Saint Mary will look for its third straight win on Saturday when it travels to Lehman. First serve with the Lightning is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
