Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team plays host to non-conference foe Western Connecticut on Wednesday to begin the traditional Fall Season. First serve with the Colonials is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on the Tennis Courts on the Mount Saint Mary campus.
Looking Back: Mount Saint Mary produced a 3-4 overall record, including a 3-3 record against conference only opponents in the Spring of 2021, and qualified for the Skyline Conference Championship where it fell to -top-seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. 5-1.
At A Glace: Mount Saint Mary welcomes back seven players from the spring roster, including First Team All-Skyline Conference selection
Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.). Flynn posted a perfect 6-0 record in her first collegiate season, going 3-0 at both the fourth and fifth positions. She went 4-0 in conference action and posted the team's lone win in the conference championship with a 6-2, 6-2 fifth singles victory.
Sophomore
Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) returns after seeing time at both the second and third singles positions and teaming with Flynn for a 3-3 record in doubles action. Green and Flynn played at the second doubles position, splitting their six decisions and posting a 3-2 record in conference play.
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.), a Second Team All-League pick in both 2018 and 2019, is back after winning two of her three singles matches in the spring while posting a perfect 3-0 record in doubles play.
Mount Saint Mary also welcomes back
Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.),
Tiana Porco (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and
Blanca Ayala Santana (Port Jervis, N.Y.) from the spring roster.
Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) rand
Julia Loda (North Haven, Conn.) also return after not competing in the spring season.
Mount Saint Mary also turns to
Victoria Valencia (Floral Park, N.Y.) to step in an add depth to a talented lineup in 2021.
Head Coach: Jacqui Laird returns for her third season as the Mount's head coach and has guided the Mount to 10 victories, including seven against league rivals. Laird has guided the Knights to a berth in the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament in each of her two previous seasons.
The Schedule: After hosting Western Connecticut on Wednesday, the Knights three straight matches on the road and four of five away from Newburgh. Starting with a home match against St. Joseph's-L.I. on September 29, the Knights will close the regular season with six of the final seven matches at home, including a six-match run at home.
The Skyline Conference Championship gets underway on October 20 with the conference champion crowned on October 23.
