Women’s Tennis Set For Skyline Conference Semifinal Match At St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Knights making fourth straight appearance in Skyline Championship Tournament

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team will begin play in the 2021 Skyline Championship on Thursday evening with a Semifinal match at top-seeded St. Joseph's-L.I. First serve with the Golden Eagles is slated for 5:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: The Knights finished a conference-only schedule in 2021 with a 3-3 record, scoring an abbreviated victory over Purchase with a 4-1 win on Monday to clinch the final seed in this year's conference championship.
 
Mount Saint Mary was led by sophomore Julia Flynn (Naugatuck, Conn.) who posted a perfect 5-0 record in singles play in her first collegiate season, going 3-0 at fourth singles and 2-0 at the fifth position during the regular season. Flynn also teamed with Carly Green (Holbrook, N.Y.) to post a 3-2 record at the second doubles position.
 
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) also had a strong regular season for the Mount, posting a 4-1 mark in singles competition, including a 2-0 mark at the fourth position. Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) and Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each won a pair of matches for the Knights in 2021.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights clinched a berth into the Skyline Conference Championship with a 4-1 win over Purchase on Monday. Green and Flynn scored an 8-3 second doubles wins for the Knights with Imperio collecting the lone singles win of the match, cruising to an 8-2 victory at the fifth position.
 
Regular Season Meeting: The two teams squared off on May 2 with the Golden Eagles scoring a 7-2 victory. Goetz and Flynn picked up the victories for the Knights with Goetz posting a 6-4, 6-2 third singles win and Flynn producing a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the fourth position.
 
Recent History: The Mount holds a 10-9 record over St. Joseph's-L.I. since the start of the 2007 season, but the Golden Eagles have won the last four meetings in the series, including a 5-1 win in last fall's Skyline Conference Championship. The Mount's last win in the series came in a 5-4 win on October 18, 2017 in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinals.
 
Skyline Conference Championship History: Since the start of the 2007 season, this will be the Knights 10th appearance in the conference championship. The Knights have advanced to the championship final on six occasions and claimed the league's title four times.
 
Mount Saint Mary collected four straight conference championships from 2009-12 and appeared in the championship match in 2008 and most recently in 2017.
 
After failing to qualify for the championship in three straight years from 2014-16, the Knights have qualified for the event the last four seasons.
 
What's At Stake: The winner of Thursday's semifinal will square-off with the winner of the (2) Manhattanville and (3) Farmingdale State semifinal winner on Saturday. The winner of Saturday's final will represent the Skyline Conference in the NCAA Tournament.
