Knights Eliminated From Skyline Championship By Top-Seeded Farmingdale State

Knights conclude 2021 season 17-12

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon following a 12-0 loss to top-seeded Farmingdale State in the Skyline Conference Championship. Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Samantha Bendig (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.) all recorded hits for the Mount.

After Farmingdale State went scoreless in the top of the first inning, Mount Saint Mary immediately had a scoring threat after Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.) walked and Dentato singled to put runners on the corners with no one out. Dentato advanced on a passed ball to give the Knights two runners in scoring position with one out, but Farmingdale State starter Christina Loeffler got a pop up and a strikeout to end the threat.

The Rams scored what proved to be the deciding run in the top of the second when Brooke Walker and Julianna Prescia ripped a triple and double to start the frame. Farmingdale State went on to erupt for 11 runs in the fourth to close out the scoring in the game. The Rams recorded nine hits in the inning and took advantage of five Mount Saint Mary errors to secure the win. Loeffler helped her own cause with a two-run single in the inning with Prescia adding a two-run triple for the Rams.

Dentanto, Bendig and McClinchey all singled for the Mount in the game. The only other base runners in the game for the Knights were Killeen who walked and Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) who was hit with a pitch.

Lyndsay Shaw finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Rams with Prescia recording two hits, scoring twice and driving in three runs. Walker added a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored with Loeffler finishing up 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI.

Freshman Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) suffered the loss on Saturday and fell to 11-8 on the season. She allowed only one earned run on seven hits in 3.0 innings, striking out one. Loeffler picked up her sixth win for the Rams, striking out five and allowing two hits in 4.0 shutout innings.

Saturday's loss ends the Mount Saint Mary season at 17-12.
