Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team completed a four game sweep of Purchase on Monday afternoon with 17-5 and 15-5 victories over the Panthers. Sophomore
Laura Dentato (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had a big day at the plate, totaling seven hits, including her first career home run.
Game 1
The Knights put game one away early on Monday, plating eight runs in the first and five more in the second to build an early 13-0 lead.
Morgan O'Neill (Little Falls, N.J.) got things started with a two-run double in the first with
Nicole Rosner (Brewster, N.Y.) following with a two-run single. Dentato closed out the scoring in the first with a two-run single up the middle to open the 8-0 lead after a single at-bat.
Following the big first, the Knights got right back to work in the second inning, recording six hits and taking advantage of a pair of Purchase miscues. O'Neill capped off the big second frame with a two-run single that drove home
Samantha Bendig (Bellmore, N.Y.) and
Alicia Killeen (Nesconset, N.Y.).
Purchase put two runs on the board in the top of the third before the Knights pushed across four more in the home half of the frame to finish of their scoring in the game.
Riley Norwood (East Haven, Conn.) and Victoria Santamauro (Eastchester, N.Y.) produced run scoring doubles in the inning with Dentato driving home a pair of runs with a triple to close out the scoring for the Knights.
Twelve different players recorded a hit for the Mount in game one as it outhit Purchase 20-5. Dentato finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI with Rosner going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Killeen,
Sofia Gannon (East Patchogue, N.Y.) and
Melanie McClinchey (Medford, N.Y.) all finished the game with two hits and two runs scored for the Knights.
Bridget Morris (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) earned the win in her first career start, working 2.2 innings and allowing two runs on a hit while striking out four.
Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif.) worked the final 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out four more Panthers.
Game 2
After falling behind 1-0, the Knights plated nine runs in the home half of the first, four more in the bottom of the third and the final two runs in the fourth. Mount Saint Mary produced eight hits in the big first inning keyed by a two-run home run to straight away center field from Dentato.
Olivia Ferara (Middletown, N.Y.) added a two-run single in the frame for the Knights and O'Neill closed out the scoring in the frame with a run scoring single.
The Mount recorded six more hits in the third frame, including a leadoff home run from
Nicole Palmer (Monroe, N.Y.) to give the Knights a 10-1 lead.
Jessica Ehret (Broad Channel, N.Y.) added a two-run single that delivered Santamauro and Gannon to give the Mount a 13-1 advantage.
Mount Saint Mary put its final two runs of the day on the board in the fourth frame when
Lauren Farina (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Santamauro recorded run scoring singles that built the Knights' advantage to 15-1.
Eleven different players recorded a hit in game two for Mount Saint Mary as the team pounded out 16 more safeties to close the day. Dentato rounded out a big day with a 4-for-4 effort in game two that included three runs scored and a pair of RBI. Palmer and Santamauro each finished with two hits with Palmer adding two runs and a trio of RBI. Ferara, Santamuaro and Ehret all finished the second contest with two RBI for the Knights.
Rosner made the start in the circle for the Knights and worked the first 3.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits. She fanned three Panthers as she moved to 1-0 on the season.
Monday's sweep moves Mount Saint Mary to a perfect 4-0 on the season and to 3-0 in Skyline Conference play. The Knights will start a conference series with Old Westbury on April 3. First pitch for the road set to be played at Farmingdale State is set for 12:00 p.m.
