Knights Host Skyline Conference Rival Purchase Saturday Afternoon

Knights swim at Kaplan Center Pool for second time this season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's and Women's Swimming teams return to the Kaplan Center Pool on Saturday when they welcome league rival Purchase to Newburgh for a Skyline Conference dual meet. Events with the Panthers are scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m.

MSMC Men At A Glance: The Knights are coming off a 10th place team finish at the three-day Diamond City Invitational that concluded on November 21.
 
Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) posted the team best individual finish of the weekend on Sunday in the 200-yard backstroke, the first even of the final session. He posted a time of 2:21.45 to take 10th overall and earn 17 points in the standings for the Knights.
 
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) put together a strong second day for the Knights which included his 11th place swim in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 58.28 seconds. He added a 14th place outing for the Knights in the 200-yard individual medley, showing a time of 2:12.86. Tagliareni posted a 12th place finish for the Knights on Sunday in the 100-yard freestyle.
 
Recent History Against Purchase: Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Mount Saint Mary has won each of the three meetings with the Panthers. Most recently, the Knights posted a 118-81 victory on December 7, 2019.
 
MSMC Women At A Glance: The Knights closed out the three-day Diamond City Invitational on November 21 with a ninth place team finish.
 
Catherine Masayda (Watertown, Conn.) was one of two Knights to break into the top-10 in the 200-yard breaststroke on Sunday. She took the third overall position in the event with a time of 2:43.34, posting the team's best individual performance of the weekend. Emily Crowley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) followed in seventh place, touching out in a time of 2:52.03.
 
Jillian Bunch (Newburgh, N.Y.) closed out an impressive weekend for the Mount with an 11th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. She also added a fourth place finish on the middle day of competition in the 200-yard freestyle.
 
Recent History Against Purchase: The Mount has won the last three decisions over the Panthers and are 3-1 against Purchase since the start of the 2007-08 season. In the last meeting between the two sides, Mount Saint Mary scored a 142-54 home win on December 7, 2019.
 
What's Next: Saturday's meet is the final competition for the Knights in the 2021 portion of the schedule. Next up is a trip to Bard on January 8, 2022.
