Women’s Swimming Begins Conference Competition At St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Knights in search of first win of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team returns to action and opens Skyline Conference competition on Friday when it travels to St. Joseph's-L.I. Events with the Golden Eagles are scheduled to being at 6:00 p.m.

At A Glance: Mount Saint Mary is coming off two tight defeats to Division II opponents, falling to the College of Staten Island (87-74) and Queens College (84-74) on October 21.
 
Jillian Bunch (Newburgh, N.Y.)  dominated the relay events for the Knights, scoring victories in the 200 and 500-yard events on Thursday. Her initial win of the night came in a time of 2:10.39 before she topped the field in the 500-yard race with a time of 6:03.92.
 
Emily Crowley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored a victory for the Mount in the 100-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:06.24 and also earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching out in a time of 1:21.71.
 
Emily Gursky (Oakville, Conn.) turned in a strong swim with a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley and a third place showing in the 100-yard backstroke. The second place swim came in a time of 2:50.41 before finishing the backstroke race in 1:14.78. Kristen Dwight (Newfield, N.J.) also had a strong night for the Mount, placing third in the 50-yard freestyle in 29.66 seconds.
 
Mount Saint Mary closed out the event with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Gursky, Dwight, Crowley and Bunch beat the field in a time of 1:54.89.
 
Recent History: Since 2008, Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph's have met 11 times with the Knights posting an impressive 10-1 record. Following a 104-95 loss to the Golden Eagles in 2009, the Knights have won the last nine matchups.
What's Next: The Knights continue Skyline Conference action on November 6 when they travel to league rival Sarah Lawrence.
