Staten Island, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team was in the pool on Thursday in its first meet since February 23, 2020, falling on the road at the College of Staten Island by a score of 150-36.
Peter O'Malley (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the Knights with a pair of runner-up finishes on the night.
O'Malley finished a strong season opener on Thursday with second place showings in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races. He touched out in the 50-yard race in a time of 24.75 seconds before finishing the 100-yard event in 55.46 seconds.
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) also opened the season in strong fashion with a second place swim in the 200-yard freestyle and a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. He completed the freestyle race in 1:59.29 before rounding out the backstroke event in a time of 1:15.97.
Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) and
Jackson Lerner (Bayside, N.Y.) each closed the night with third place finishes for the Knights. Williams came home third in both the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle in times of 2:30.20 and 6:07.74 with Lerner coming home third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.02.
Mount Saint Mary picked up second place points on Thursday in each of the two relay events in the meet. The team of Tagliareni, Williams, Lerner and O'Malley opened the meet with a time of 1:53.91 in the 200-yard medley race before the same quartet closed the night with a time of 1:40.68 in the 200-yard freestyle event.
Mount Saint Mary looks to build on Thursday performance on November 6 when it travels to Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence.
