Danbury, Conn. – Playing in its final match prior to the Skyline Conference Championship, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Golf team topped Western Connecticut in a non-conference dual match on Friday by a score of 332-384.
Patrick Shea (Warwick, N.Y.) was the individual medalist in the match with the Knights taking the top four individual positions.
Shea continued his impressive fall by carding a 75 on the par-71 course at Richter Park in Danbury. He won the event by seven strokes over teammate
John Del Bene (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) who posted an 82 to finish second for the Mount.
Matthew Ropiak (Staten Island, N.Y.) continued his steady season for the Knights with an 86 to place third on Friday with
Gerald Burt (Staten Island, N.Y.) carding an 89 to finish in the fourth position.
Chris Shea (Warwick, N.Y.) rounded out the lineup for the Knights with a 96, finishing the day in a tie for fifth place.
"It was good to get a win going into the championship this Sunday. Richter Park is a beautiful golf course and gave our guys a great test of golf. Pat Shea continues his MVP season for us," said Head Coach
Andy Crane.
Crane continued, "We are looking forward to the Skylines and playing Bethpage . We're feeling really good to go get a good finish."
Mount Saint Mary will open the 36-hole Skyline Conference Championship on the Blue Course at Bethpage State Park on Sunday. Tee times for the championship begin at 10:00 a.m.
