Women's Lacrosse Begins Busy Week With Sage

Knights hits the road for back to back contests, finishes the week at home

Newburgh, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team begins a busy week on Tuesday evening as the Knights travel to Sage for a non-conference matchup at 6:30 p.m. The Mount will also head to Castleton on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. contest before returning home for a three game homestand with Wilkes on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.

At A Glance: The Knights have begun the season at 0-3 overall after a 14-7 loss against Bard on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) leads the squad in goals with five as well as points with seven. Senior Liz Halpin (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) is second in goals with four while sophomore Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) has added three goals on the year.

L. Halpin leads the team in draw controls with 17 while Cat Halpin (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) and Condron have chipped in seven draw controls. Cat Halpin and junior Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) are tied for the team lead in groundballs with eight and four players are tied for the team lead in caused turnovers with two.

Finkel has started all three games in goal for the Mount, making 36 saves on the season while holding a goals against average of 14.67.

Last Time Out: L. Halpin scored two goals and won seven draw controls and Condron totaled three points in a 14-7 road non-conference loss at Bard. 

With two goals apiece,  Halpin and Condron sit atop the team leaderboard in goals with five on the season. With three points, Condron pushes her team lead in points to seven and her team standard in assists to two. Halpin rounded out the game leading all players with seven draw controls, adding three groundballs.
 
In addition to her first goal of the season, Anne Dolan (Poughkeepie, N.Y.) picked up a team-high four groundballs and caused a turnover. Nicole Cervone (Shirley, N.Y.) picked up an assist for the Mount and led the team with a pair of caused turnovers.

Finkel posted double-figure saves for the second straight contest, rounding out Saturday's contest with 13 stops to go along with two groundballs.

Scouting Sage: The Gators have started the season at 0-2 with losses to SUNY Poly and Fitchburg State so far this season.

Caroline Musinski leads the team in goals with six while Samantha Shafer has added four goals and Paige Stewart has chipped in three. Sage only has four assists on its 17 goals on the season. 

Musinski also has a team-high five draw controls as Brittany Gage sets the team standard in groundballs with nine and caused turnovers with six. Kerry McKeown has added six groundballs and five caused turnovers.

Three different goalies have appeared in games this season as Carly Plaisance has started one game and played the majority of the minutes with 19 saves in 71:06 minutes of action. Marina Azab started the other contest and has made 10 saves in 38:24 minutes of play.

Previewing Castleton: The Spartans have started the season 1-3 and have lost two in a row with the most recent loss coming to Fitchburg State on Sunday. Castleton plays host to Plattsburgh on Tuesday before hosting Mount Saint Mary.

Erin Shuttle has a team-high 20 goals and 26 points so far this season while Morgan Desrosia also has double-digit goals with 14. Megan Krumm has a team-high seven assists while Shuttle has added six. 

Desrosia leads in draw controls with 21 while Shuttle has 20 as the two players split the duties. Desrosia has a team-high in groundballs with 12 and caused turnovers with eight. Shuttle and Aubra Linn each have six caused turnovers this season.

Raven Payne has started all four games in net for the Spartans as she has made 54 saves while posting a GAA of 17.53.

Analyzing Wilkes: The Colonels are in the midst of a four game skid and have started the year 2-4. Wilkes will travel to Alvernia on Wednesday before heading to Newburgh on Saturday afternoon.

Camryn Devitt leads a trio of double-digit scorers with 12 goals on the year as Domenica Lerch and Lauren Delameter each have 11 goals. Lerch leads the team in assists with nine and points with 20.

Seven players have tallied double-digit groundballs with Lerch leading the way with 25 and Laura Bayzick adding 20. Lerch also leads in caused turnovers with 12 and draw controls with 26. Brooklyn Pedana has 11 caused turnovers on year while Sierra Duman has 14 draw controls.

Sarah Carlini has started all six contest for the Colonels as she has made 65 saves while posting a 13.39 goals against average and save percentage of .478.

What's Next: The Mount continues its three game homestand against local foe Vassar on Tuesday, March 17. First draw with the Brewers is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
