Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Athletic Department closes out another week with a look back at past performances on November 20.
Men's Cross Country
After being postponed on October 30 due to a snowstorm, the Mount competed in the Skyline Conference Championship Meet at Van Cortlandt Park on today's date in 2011. The Knights placed seventh in the nine team field and were led by a 23
rd place overall finish from Jeremias Ramos.
Men's Basketball
The Men's Basketball program has been busy on November 20, holding a 5-1 record on today's date since the start of the 2006-07 season.
The Mount opened the Golden Bear Classic on today's date in 2009 and came away with a 74-70 victory over host Western New England. Tim Morris produced 14 points and nine rebounds for the Mount with Carlos Valdez chipping in with 13 points and nine boards. Matt Weinberger supported the victory with eight points and nine assists for the Knights.
In 2010, the Knights took care of St. Joseph's-Brooklyn by a score of 89-63 in the consolation game of the Hartwick Tournament. Chris Pisciotta made four of his five three-point attempts on his way to 18 points with Valdez checking in with seven points, 15 rebounds and five assists in the victory.
Mount Saint Mary outlasted local foe New Paltz 83-81 in overtime to post a victory on today's date in 2012. Donte Howell had a big night for the Mount, pouring in 25 points and going 4-for-5 from three-point range. Joe Stabach contributed 20 points and nine rebounds and Joe Henain notched a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards.
The Knights collected a 61-54 win over Valley Forge on today's date in 2016 in the consolation contest on the Nazareth Tournament.
Daniel Wolff led four players in double-figures for the Mount with a team-high 20 points.
Most recently, the Mount opened the 2018-19 season with a home win over Manhattanville on November 20, 2018.
Kendall Francis led the scoring attack with 17 points with
Connor Bacci and
Paul Sienke each chipping in 13 points apiece for the Knights.
Men's Swimming
The Knights have been in action twice on today's date, scoring a 109-76 Skyline Conference win over Old Westbury in 2010 and rounding out the two-day Diamond City Invitational in 2016 in fifth place out of 10 teams.
Against the Panthers, the Mount received two wins apiece from both Brian Heitman and Enrique Naudy. Heitman touched out first in both the 1,000 and 500-yard freestyle races, while Naudy took the top spot in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events.
In 2016, the Knights completed Day Two of the Diamond City Invitational with five top-10 finishes over three different events.
Kyle Barber and
Robert Kohlus finished third and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly,
Jake Schoenherr and
Ryan Ward placed fourth and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle and
Steven Fejes claimed the eighth position in the 1,650-yard freestyle race.
Women's Cross Country
After being snowed out on October 30, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Cross Country team earned a runner-up finish on today's date in the 2011 Skyline Conference Championship. The Knights placed four runners in the top-10, led by a third place overall finish from Cassandra Gucciardo.
Women's Basketball
Mount Saint Mary holds an even 3-3 record on today's date since the start of the 2007-08 season. The Mount overwhelmed conference foe Yeshiva 83-33 in 2007, took the consolation game of the Chuck Resler Tournament at Rochester from Ithaca 73-59 in 2010 and won the consolation game of the Amherst Tip-Off Tournament over Norwich by a score of 66-52 in 2011.
Against Yeshiva, Meredith Paggi went 3-for-5 from three-point range and finished a strong all-around game with 13 points and four assists to lead the Mount.
In 2010, Jen Mocanu poured in 26 points on 11-for-20 shooting against the Bombers and added seven rebounds as she was named to the All-Tournament Team. Amanda Horvers finished off the win with 12 points and three assists with Jess Tice chipping in 10 points for the Knights.
The most recent win came in 2011 with Horvers leading the scoring attack with 12 points. Charneice McCullough also had a strong contest for the Knights with 10 points, seven rebounds and a trio of assists.
Women's Swimming
Like the men's team, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team has been in the pool twice on November 20. The Knights collected a 109-64 conference win over Old Westbury in 2010 and then posted the team's best ever finish at the Diamond City Invitational in 2016, closing the event in fourth place out of 12 teams.
In the 2010 conference win, the Mount was led by a pair of wins from Brianna Perazella. She took the top spot for the Knights in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley in the victory.
On Day Two of the Diamond City Invitational, the Mount featured six top-10 finishes over four different events. Harley Illingworth,
Marissa Catania and
Kyra McNamee led the way with third place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle, respectively. Rachel Stone and
Jessica Daigle followed McNamee in the 500-yard freestyle with fifth and sixth place finishes and
Samantha McGregor scored a ninth place finish for the Knights in the 200-yard butterfly.
