Newburgh, N.Y. – In the final installment of 'On This Date' for the week, the Mount Saint Mary College Athletic Department takes a look back through the archives on October 16.
 
Men's Cross Country
Mount Saint Mary took park in the Collegiate Track Conference Championship Meet in 2010 and ran to a 12th place team finish in Sewell, N.J. Ian Brink was the Mount's top finisher, placing 49th overall in a field of 133 competitors.
 
Men's Golf
The Knights earned a thrilling victory on this date in 2019, securing a first place finish at the Mitchell Invitational on a sudden death playoff hole. Matt Higgins was the Mount's top finisher on the day, working his way around the Shennecossett Golf Course in an eight over-par 79.
 
Men's Soccer
The Mount has split two contests on October 16, with the win coming in a 3-1 triumph over the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 2018. Matt Wyant was one of three different goal scorers in the game, posting a tally and an assist with Tyler Rapp earning the win in goal with four saves.
 
Women's Cross Country
The Knights have been in action twice on October 16, running to a sixth place team finish at the Collegiate Track Conference Championship in 2010 and winning the York (N.Y.) Invitational a year later in 2011.
 
At the CTC Meet, Nicole Zazzero placed 21st overall out of 111 finishers and in the York victory, Cassandra Guccialdo, Zazzero and current assistant coach Rachel (Sleeter) Darling keyed the victory by placing second, third and fourth overall.
 
Women's Soccer
Mount Saint Mary holds a 2-1 record on October 16, earning a 2-0 win over Sage in 2014 and a dominating 5-0 win over Maritime in 2018.
 
In the 2014 victory over the Gators, the Mount held a 24-1 advantage in shots with Jordyn Catapano and Marissa Segretto providing the scoring. Against the Privateers four years later, the Mount outshot Maritime 40-1 with Allie Salamone scoring twice for the Knights.
 
Women's Tennis
The Women's Tennis team has cruised to a pair of victories on October 16. The Mount took care of Bard 8-1 in 2009 and then swept a non-conference match with Brooklyn College in 2018, posting a 9-0 triumph.
 
Women's Volleyball
The Women's Volleyball squad has been the busiest on October 16, winning four of its seven decisions. The Mount won a four set decision with Bard as it split two matches in the Hudson Valley Tournament hosted by Vassar in 2010. The Knights then went on to sweep William Paterson in 2012, won a four set contest with Maritime in 2016 and battled past Bard in five sets in 2018.
 
In the 2010 victory over Bard, Kaylene Pennings led the offensive stack with 13 kills, while hitting .455 in the match. Lauren Halverson handed out 31 assists, lifted 10 digs and produced five service aces. In the five set victory in 2018, Morgan Burke matched the five set program record for blocks in a match with 10 and added a team-high 18 kills. Alex Klesin put away 12 kills, lifted 10 digs and added five blocks, with Kim Gries handing out 40 assists.
 
In 2012, the Mount took care of William Paterson in straight sets behind eight kills and four aces from Kayla Kurka with Mary Ann Raftery adding seven kills and 16 digs. Halverson handed out 28 assists to support the winning effort.
 
Against Maritime in 2016, Rachel Sabatini recorded 11 kills with Nicole Spinelli turning in a strong match with 10 kills and three blocks. Kristen Maddock rounded out the win with 20 assists and seven service aces.
