Throggs Neck, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team was back in action on Tuesday and split a pair of Skyline Conference decisions at Maritime. The Knights toppled the host Privateers by a score of 125-71 while falling to the United States Merchant Marine Academy 168-49.
Junior
Shayla McCarroll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had a strong night for the Mount, scoring the team's top individual finish with a runner-up showing in the 500-yard freestyle. McCarroll finished second in the event in a time of 6:05.70 and closed the day with a fourth place finish in the 50-yard backstroke in 34.12 seconds.
Four Knights picked up third place finishes for the Mount on Tuesday.
Daley O'Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.) took third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.00,
Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) earned third place points in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:19.17,
Kristen Dwight (Newfield, N.J.) touched out third in the 50-yard backstroke in 33.49 seconds and
Emily Crowley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) showed a time of 35.70 seconds which was good for third place in the 50-yard breaststroke.
Five Mount Saint Mary swimmers finished Tuesday's meet with fourth place showings, including O'Keefe who took the fourth spot in the 400-yard individual medley in 5:33.76.
Samantha Gangemi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took fourth in a pair of events, swimming a time of 31.96 seconds in the 50-yard butterfly and a time of 1:05.73 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Kyle Quinn (Warwick, N.Y.) placed fourth for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:30.09, while
Emily Gursky (Oakville, Conn.) posted a time of 29.23 seconds which was good for fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Senior
Taylor Hollis (East Hartford, Conn.) picked up fourth place points for Mount Saint Mary in the 50-yard breaststroke on Tuesday, touching out in a time of 37.39 seconds.
Mount Saint Mary swam to a third place finish in each of the two relay events on Tuesday. The team of McCarroll, Hollis, Barber and Crowley opened the meet with a time of 2:07.86 in the 200-yard medley race, before the squad of Gangemi, Dwight, Gursky and O'Keefe closed the evening with a time of 1:55.55 in the 200-yard freestyle race.
Following Tuesday's split, Mount Saint Mary stands at 6-4 overall on the season and 6-1 in Skyline Conference action. Next up for the Knights is a home non-conference meet with Baruch, FDU-Florham and Western Connecticut at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
