Women’s Tennis Travels To Skyline Conference Rival Sarah Lawrence

Knights look to bounce back following tough loss to Manhattanville

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team continues Skyline Conference play on Saturday when it heads to Skyline Conference rival Sarah Lawrence for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Gryphons.
 
At A Glance: The Mount enters its third straight conference contest on Saturday with a 2-4 overall record, including a 1-1 mark against league rivals. The Knights have split a pair of 5-4 matches in their last two outings, edging Yeshiva and suffering a hard fought defeat to Manhattanville.
 
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.), who suffered her first loss of the season against the Valiants, leads the Mount in singles win heading into the weekend with a 5-1 record at the first position. She has teamed with Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) for two mores wins for the Knights at the top doubles flight.
 
With her five singles wins to date, Carnovale has moved into a tie for sixth place all-time at the Mount in singles wins with 41 and with seven combined wins has moved into tenth all-time in combined victories for the Knights.
 
Junior Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) has won her last three outings and stands at 3-0 for the Mount at the sixth position, while Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) and Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) have each won their last two contests. Goetz stands at 3-3 in singles action on the season for the Mount, while Murray is second on the team in singles wins with four.
 
In doubles play, Murray and Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) are 3-0 at the third flight, while Carnovale and Clay at first doubles and Goetz and Vernon at both second and third doubles each have two wins as a unit.
 
Scouting Sarah Lawrence: The Gryphons enter Saturday's match winless in six contests, including a 0-2 mark against league rivals. Sarah Lawrence has been swept in each of its last two matches, falling 9-0 to both Pratt and Purchase.
 
Raven Vance is the lone player with more than one singles victory for Sarah Lawrence, posting a 2-2 mark at sixth singles. The Gryphons enter the weekend 4-31 in singles matches to date and are winless in 11 decisions against league rivals.
 
Isabella Hardman and Sam Nochimson have the only doubles win for the Gryphons, scoring a victory at the first flight. The Gryphons stand at 1-17 in doubles action as a team and 0-6 in league action.
 
Last Time Out: The Knights battled against league returnee Manhattanville, but came up a team point short on Tuesday in a 5-4 loss. The Mount scored singles wins at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions with Murray, Goetz and Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.), respectively and picked up an 8-1 third doubles win from Murray and Imperio.
 
What's Next: The Knights step out of conference on October 1 for a non-conference home match with Hartwick before returning to Skyline Conference action against Farmingdale State on October 5.
