Women’s Tennis Begins Skyline Conference Play Against Yeshiva

Knights coming off 6-3 loss at West Conn

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team opens Skyline Conference play on Sunday when it welcomes Yeshiva to Newburgh. First serve with the Maccabees is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on campus.
 
At A Glance: The Knights enter Sunday's league opener at 1-3 overall and are coming off a 6-3 loss on the road at Western Connecticut on Thursday. The Mount has suffered losses to Bard, Sage and the Colonials with its lone win coming against Pratt on September 15.
 
Senior Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) continues her standout career in 2019 and is unbeaten in four singles outings to date. At 4-0 overall on the season, she moved into sole possession of eighth place on the all-time singles win lists with 40 following a 6-3, 6-4 triumph on Thursday.
 
Junior Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) has posted wins in two straight singles outings for the Knights, including a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) win against West Conn. Sophomore Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) has also posted a pair of singles wins for the Knights, with both victories coming at the fourth slot.
 
In doubles play, Murray and Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) hold a 2-0 record at the third position, while Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) and Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) are 2-1 for the Mount, winning one match at second doubles and one at the third flight.
 
Last Time Out: The Mount suffered a 6-3 loss at Western Connecticut with Carnovale and Quinn posting singles victories. Murray and Imperio scored the lone doubles victory for the Knights, posting an 8-6 win at the third slot.
 
Scouting Yeshiva: The Maccabees enter Sunday's match with a 5-2 overall record and a 4-1 mark against league rivals. Most recently, Yeshiva posted a 6-3 win over conference preseason favorite Purchase on Thursday.
 
Shana Adler leads the Macs with five singles wins, posting a 5-1 mark at the second position through seven matches. Bailey Frohlich is 3-3 at the top flight for Yeshiva with four other players posting three singles victories.
 
Overall, the Maccabees have a 25-16 record in singles action, including a 20-9 mark against Skyline Conference opponents.
 
Frohlich and Michal Landenheim hold a 2-1 record at first doubles for Yeshiva entering the weekend while six different pairs have scored a victory for the Macs at the third doubles flight.
 
In doubles action, the Maccabees hold an 11-10 overall record and a 9-6 mark against Skyline Conference rivals.
 
Recent History: Since 2007, the Mount holds a 7-6 record against Yeshiva, but the Macs have won the last six outings. The last win for Mount Saint Mary came on October 6, 2013 when the Knights posted a 7-2 victory.
 
What's Next: The Knights continue league play when it hosts Manhattanville on September 24.
