Women’s Tennis Returns To Action Against Sage, Pratt

Knights in search of first victory of 2019

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team returns to action for the first time since its season opener this weekend when it hosts both Sage and Pratt. Both matches on the weekend are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on campus.
 
At A Glance: The Knights dropped a tight 5-4 decision to Bard on September 6 in its first action of 2019. The Mount dropped two of the three doubles decisions, while Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.), Sarah Canzone (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) scored singles wins against the Raptors.
 
Carnovale picked up her 37th singles victory for the Knights in the Bard contest, good for 10th all-time in program history. She scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory for the Knights as she moved to 1-0 on the season at the first singles flight.
 
Canzone picked up her 10th career singles win for the Mount in the season opener, earning a tough 3-6, 6-0, 10-4 victory at the fourth position. Goetz got into the win column in the initial outing of the season at the sixth slot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Goetz also teamed with Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) at third doubles for a hard fought 8-6 victory for the Knights.
 
A Look At Sage: The Gators head to Newburgh sporting a 3-1 overall record and are coming off a 9-0 sweep of SUNY Delhi on Tuesday. Sage has also topped MCLA and Oswego State in the early going, with its lone blemish coming against Western New England.
 
Abby Clobridge holds a 3-1 record the first singles position with Rebecca Jackson posting the same record at the second flight. Clobridge and Sadie Dunne have won two of their three matches together at the top doubles flight, while Jackson and Taylor Gillespie are a perfect 4-0 at second doubles.
 
Overall, Sage holds a 17-7 record in singles matches through four contests and a 9-3 mark in doubles competition.
 
Scouting Pratt: The Cannoneers open the 2019 season on Saturday on the road at Stockton.
 
What's Next: Following a busy weekend, the Mount opens Skyline Conference play against Yeshiva on September 22.
