Women’s Lacrosse Begins Skyline Conference Play With Old Westbury, Farmingdale State

Knights in search of first victory of the season

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team plays its first home game in a month on Wednesday evening as it plays host to Old Westbury at 7:00 p.m. The Knights then travel to Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon for a 3:30 p.m. contest.

At A Glance: The Knights are 0-6 on the season following a 14-5 road loss against Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday.

Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) leads the Mount in goals with 11 while Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Providence Gilkey (Shirley, N.Y.) are tied for second with five. Anne Dolan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) hold the lone assists on the season for the Knights.

Hope Blanc (Wantagh, N.Y.) leads in ground balls with 14 and caused turnovers with eight. Lindsay leads in draw controls with 11 for the Mount.

Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) has started all six games in goal for the Knights, making 53 saves and posting a 15.97 goals against average.

The Knights have been outscored 96-30 this season and are being outshot 33-12 per game. 

Last Time Out: The Knights dropped a 14-5 contest on the road against Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday afternoon.

Shalvey scored two goals for the Knights in the defeat and she added three groundballs and two caused turnovers on the day while Kathryn McQuillen (Baldwin, N.Y.) also picked up three groundballs. Seven players finished with a caused turnover on the contest for the Knights. Lindsay led the Knights in draw controls with five.

Scouting the Panthers: Old Westbury has started the season 1-7 after a 17-3 loss against Ramapo on March 25.

Natasha Treuman leads in goals with 25 on the year and has a team-high 39 draw controls. She also has picked up 20 groundballs and has 14 caused turnovers. Alessia Drevnyak has scored 11 times this season while Hope Matthews has 10 goals and three assists for the Panthers.

Matthews has also picked up a team-high 22 groundballs and caused 12 turnovers. Yaritza Caraballo and Jessica Pedroza each have four assists for Old Westbury.

Tazmeya Allen has started all eight games in goal for the Panthers, posting a 16.00 goals against average while making 103 saves.

Old Westbury has been outscored 128-56 on the season and been outshot by an average of 36-18 per game.

Previewing Farmingdale State: The Rams have posted a 1-9 record to begin the season after a 21-5 loss to Kean on March 30. Farmingdale State squares off with the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday night before hosting the Knights on Saturday.

Courtney Gendels leads in goals with 18 while Sam Shelton has added 17 goals for the Rams. Jessica Spina leads in assists with 12 while Haley Perez has picked up 19 groundballs. Eight other players have picked up at least 10 groundballs on the season.

Shelton is the leader in draw controls with 28 while four other players have double digit draw controls. Melanie Tencic has 13 caused turnovers with Alexandra Palladino and Alexandra Sparrow each having 10.

Iyana Hudson and Emily Rodier has split the time in goal for Farmingdale State with Hudson starting six games. Hudson has posted a 15.09 GAA and has made 65 saves while Rodier holds a 15.33 GAA and has made 40 saves.

What's Next: Following Saturday's contest, the Knights returns home for a three game homestand starting on Tuesday evening with St. Joseph's-L.I. First draw with the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field.
