Softball Closes Regular Season Against FDU-Florham, Farmingdale State

Knights coming off split with Sarah Lawrence on Thursday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team will play its final four regular season games of the season this week when it hosts FDU-Florham on Tuesday and Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. First pitch for the midweek set with the Devils is set for 3:00 p.m., while Saturday's twinbill is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
 
At A Glance: The Knights have dropped four of their last five outings overall and enter Tuesday's set with a 12-18 overall record. The Mount split a Skyline Conference set with Sarah Lawrence on Thursday, claiming game one by a score of 6-1 before falling to the Gryphons in the nightcap 8-2.
 
Junior Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) is the lone Knights hitting above .300 on the season, checking in at .385, including a .913 OPS. Lang leads the Knights with 37 hits and 16 RBI while slugging .490 and recording a .423 on-base percentage.
 
Senior Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.) is hitting .267 for the Mount and paces the team with 19 runs scored to go along with a perfect 15-for-15 showing in stolen base chances. Classmate Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.) leads the team with 16 walks and is hitting .277 on the year, while sophomore Morgan O'Neill (Little Falls, N.J.) has driven in 13 runs and is tied for the team lead with Lauren Oury (Bethpage, N.Y.) in doubles with six.
 
Junior Bridget Bennett (Gardiner, N.Y.) anchors the pitching staff and holds a 6-4 record with a 2.37 earned run average in 14 appearances. She has worked three shutouts to date and fanned 53 in 68 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .218 off of Bennett who has worked seven complete games in nine starts.
 
As a team, Mount Saint Mary is hitting .255 as a team, while the pitching staff holds a 4.25 ERA and a .277 opponent's batting average. The Knights rank eighth in the conference in team batting and fourth in team pitching.
 
A Look At FDU-Florham: The Devils come to town on Tuesday sporting a 12-17 overall record and are coming off a 12-1 and 9-3 doubleheader loss to Manhattanville on April 17. FDU has split its last six outings overall.
 
The Devils feature a trio of regulars that are hitting over .300 on the season, led by Gabby Young who is hitting .371 in 89 at-bats to go along with a team-high 25 runs scored, 12 walks and a .446 on-base percentage. Young is an impressive 26-for-27 in stolen base chances on the season. Tara Morash is hitting .319 with 11 runs and Taylor Tobey checks in at .319 with 12 runs scored. Dani Sames leads the Devils with 14 RBI and is batting .286 .
 
A trio of pitchers have picked up victories for FDU-Florham on the season, led by a 7-6 record from Kaleigh Oplinger. Ciara Hoffman has fanned a team-high 34 hitters and is 4-5 on the season, while Megan Zaccario leads the team with a 4.20 earned run average in 31.2 innings pitched.
 
The Devils hit .277 as a team through 29 games, while the pitching staff holds a 4.71 earned run average and a .337 opponent's batting average.
 
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams sit atop the Skyline Conference standings entering the week and heading into a Tuesday set with the College of Staten Island at 15-13 overall and 13-1 against league rivals. Farmingdale State has won its last three overall and 15 of its last 16.
 
Julianna Prescia is hitting .429 in 70 at-bats for the Rams entering the week, scoring 18 runs and driving in 13. Sierra Cardenales checks in with a .413 batting average and 20 RBI, while Jessica Lombardo leads the team with 26 RBI while hitting .305 on the season. Lombardo has ripped 10 extra base hits on the season, including eight doubles, and is slugging .463 for the Rams.
 
Jaxie Collard has made a team-high 13 starts to lead the pitching staff and holds a 6-6 record to go along with a 2.13 earned run average. She has worked and team best 72.1 innings and worked eight complete games while fanning 25. Julia Walpole has fanned a team-high 28 batters and is 4-2 in nine appearances for the Rams.
 
Farmingdale State is hitting .326 as a team and holds a staff earned run average 2.45. The Rams are second in the conference in team batting and lead the league in team pitching.
 
What's Next: The Knights will begin their quest for a fourth straight Skyline Conference title next week with game times, opponents and locations announced after completion of play on Saturday.
