Men’s Tennis Set For Farmingdale State, Western Connecticut

Knights play final home regular season match on Tuesday

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team will play two of its final three regular season matches this week when it hosts Farmingdale State on Tuesday and travels to Western Connecticut on Wednesday. First serve with the Rams in Newburgh is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with the Knights and Colonials also scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. contest in Danbury, Conn. on Wednesday.
 
At A Glance: The Knights enter Tuesday's tilt with Farmingdale State winners of four straight matches and with an 8-2 overall record and a 3-2 mark against league rivals. The Mount has defended its home court thus far, winning seven of its eight matches in Newburgh.
 
Sophomore Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) is a perfect 10-0 in singles matches at the third slot heading into the week and is one of five Knights to have at least six singles victories on the season. Senior Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) holds a 6-4 mark at the top singles flight and has teamed with Tiriolo at the first doubles position for eight wins in 10 outings overall, including a 3-2 mark against league rivals.
 
Senior Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) is in the midst of a strong senior season, posting a 7-3 mark in singles play at the second position that includes a 3-2 mark against conference opponents. Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) at the fifth position and Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) at the fourth slot are also having strong season, with Ryan holding a 6-4 record and Gallo posting six wins in eight outings overall.
 
In addition to the top pair, Terry and Gallo have seen success in eight doubles matches together, winning six times overall, including four wins in five conference tilts. Ryan and senior Connor Bacci (Bayside, N.Y.) have teamed up for victories in each of the three matches they have been paired together at third doubles.
 
Mount Saint Mary holds a 41-19 record as a team in singles play, including an 18-11 mark against conference opponents to go along with a 22-8 mark in doubles play that includes a 9-6 record against league foes.
 
Scouting Farmingdale State: The Rams come calling on Tuesday with an impressive 6-2 record that includes three wins in four tries against league rivals. Farmingdale State has won its last six matches overall, including a 6-3 triumph over Purchase on Saturday.
 
Mark Baker begins the week at a perfect 7-0 at the first singles flight for the Rams with Cooper Everett winning each of his five outings at sixth singles thus far. Daniel Kafka is 5-1 overall, winning both of his matches at third singles to go along with a 3-1 mark at the fourth slot.
 
In doubles action, the duo of Baker and Steven Gaudio is a perfect 5-0 at the top slot with Baker and Kafka winning each of their two matches together at the top position. Bradley Maslak and Chris Molchan are having a strong season at the third position with a perfect 4-0 record together.
 
In singles play, Farmingdale State is 34-14 overall and 17-7 against league rivals and adds an 18-6 mark in doubles play that includes an 8-4 conference record.
 
Around The Skyline: Yeshiva enters the week at the league's front-runner with a 6-0 conference mark, with Farmingdale State sitting one half game ahead of three teams with a 3-1 record. Mount Saint Mary, Purchase and the United States Merchant Marine Academy all check in with 3-2 records.
 
Previewing The Colonials: The Knights and Colonials will meet for the second time this season on Wednesday, with the Mount posting a hard fought 5-4 home win on April 1. Western Connecticut enters the contest at 1-8 overall and 1-3 in Little East play.
 
William Hogan holds a 5-2 record at first singles for the Colonials through nine matches with Matthew Carino having a strong season with a 6-3 mark overall, including a 6-2 record at the second singles position.
 
In doubles play, the duo of Carino and Chauncey Allers has scored four of the team's seven doubles victories on the season and holds a 4-0 mark at the second position.
 
Overall, Western Connecticut is 19-35 in singles play on the season and 7-20 in doubles competition.
 
Last Meeting: In the April 1 match in Newburgh, the Mount swept the doubles competition and took the third and fourth singles matches to clinch the victory. McGorty and Tiriolo scored an 8-2 first doubles win with Terry and Gallo following with an 8-5 second position triumph. Ryan and David Gonzalez (Middletown, N.Y.) closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at the third slot.
 
Tiriolo won his third singles match by a 6-3, 6-1 score, while Gallo scored a 6-2, 6-4 win for the Knights to clinch the victory.
 
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary finishes off the regular season on April 23 when it travels to the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a 4:00 p.m. match with the Mariners.
