Women’s Lacrosse Concludes Three Game Homestand with the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Purchase

Knights remain in search for first win

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team concludes a three game homestand when it plays host to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon and then hosts Purchase on Monday evening. The Friends of Jaclyn game with the Dolphins is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. first draw while first draw with the Panthers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kaplan Field.

At A Glance: The Knights are 0-9 on the season after a 17-2 home loss against St. Joseph's-L.I. on Tuesday.

Courtney Condron (Franklin Square, N.Y.) continues to lead the Mount in goals with 15 while Providence Gilkey (Shirley, N.Y.) and Megan Shalvey (Blauvelt, N.Y.) each adding eight. Alyssa DiMare (Staten Island, N.Y.) has added seven goals on the season. Shalvey leads the team in assists with five.

Meghan Cumming (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) has picked up a team-high 14 groundballs and leads in caused turnovers with 10. Jackie Lindsay (Baldwin, N.Y.) leads in draw controls with 15 for the Mount.

Jackie Finkel (Warwick, N.Y.) has started all eight games in goal for the Knights, making 66 saves and posting a 16.63 goals against average.

The Knights have been outscored 146-50 this season and are last in goals per game in the Skyline Conference with 6.0. 

Last Time Out: The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Lacrosse team suffered its ninth straight loss on Tuesday evening as the Knights dropped a 17-2 Skyline contest to St. Joseph's-L.I. Finkel made six saves in the loss.

Condron finished with a caused turnover as well as a team-high two draw controls. Gilkey, Cumming, Kerrigan Shaw (Prospect, Conn.) and Nicole Cervone (Shirley, N.Y.) each picked up two groundballs for the Knights. Cumming and Cervone each had a caused turnover while four more Knights won a draw control.

Scouting the Dolphins: The College of Mount Saint Vincent is 4-5 (1-3 Skyline) on the season after a 19-7 loss to St. Joseph's-L.I. on Thursday.

The Dolphins have four players who have scored at least 10 goals, led by Emma Dell'Aquila who has scored 24 goals and has a team-high 15 assists. Caitlin Elia is second with 18 goals while Morgan Pavlik has added 17 marks and Veronica Sevivas has chipped in 14 goals.

Pavlik leads the team in groundballs with 20 with six other Dolphins having picked up 10 or more groundballs. Dell'Aquila and Kacey Brown each have 15 caused turnovers and Pavlik leading in draw controls with 56. Elia has 31 draw controls on the season.

Allyson Weaklim has started all nine games in goal for the Dolphins as she has posted an 11.68 GAA while making 99 saves.

Previewing the Panthers: Purchase is 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the Skyline after dropping a 19-7 contest against Farmingdale State on Tuesday evening. The Panthers will take on Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon before traveling to the Knights on Monday.

Gabriella Castles leads Purchase in goals with 26 while Maddy Mecca has 14 and Astrella Dacosta has added 11. Only five players have scored a goal for the Panthers so far this season. Mecca leads in assists with six while Castles has three.

Dacosta leads in groundballs with 24 while Mecca has picked up 19. Dacosta also leads in caused turnovers with 16 and draw controls with 28. Mecca is second in draw controls with 26 and caused turnovers with 10.

Brianna Pirozzi has started all seven games in goal for Purchase as she has posted a 16.96 goals against average while making 48 saves.

What's Next: Following Monday's contest, the Knights travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Thursday, April 23. First draw with the Mariners is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
