Softball Resumes Skyline Action Against Purchase, College of Mount Saint Vincent

Knights take 7-1 conference record into the weekend

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary Softball team resumes Skyline Conference action on the road this weekend, traveling to Purchase on Friday afternoon and the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday. The twinbill with the Panthers is set for 3:00 p.m. while the doubleheader with the Dolphins is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at Purchase College.
 
At A Glance: The Knights swept Old Westbury last Saturday and then earned a split with St. Joseph's-L.I. last Sunday to improve to 8-14 overall and 7-1 in the Skyline
 
Junior Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) continues her hot start for the Knights, hitting .414 and posting a .998 OPS. She continues to lead the Mount in hits (29), total bases (38), slugging percentage (.543) and on-base percentage (.455) and owns the team lead in RBI with 13.
 
Lauren Oury (Bethpage, N.Y.) and Morgan O'Neill (Little Falls, N.J.) are each hitting .250 on the season with O'Neill being second in RBI with 12. Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.) leads in runs scored with 15.
 
The Mount's pitching staff is led by junior Bridget Bennett (Gardiner, N.Y.) who has worked 34.2 innings to date and has fanned 26 batters. She also holds a team-best 2.42 ERA. O'Neill has pitched to a 2.74 earned run average in 10 appearances and is 3-3 on the season with a team-high 38.1 innings pitched.
 
Last Time Out: The Mount picked up a split of a Skyline Conference doubleheader at St. Joseph's-L.I. on Sunday, falling in game one 2-1 before rallying for a 6-4 game two victory. Lang finished the victory 4-for-5 for the Knights.

Hits in the game were even at 5-5 in game one, with Bennett finishing up 2-for-3 for the Mount with a run scored. Almodovar recorded a hit and stolen a base for the Mount, with O'Neill and MacKenzie Hymes (Middletown, Del.) supplying the other hits for the Mount.

Bennett took the tough luck loss in the circle for the Knights and fell to 2-3 on the season. She worked 6.2 innings and surrendered two runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Knights pounded out 14 hits in the nightcap and featured four players with multiple hits in the contest. Lang led the offensive attack by going 4-for-5 with two RBI, while Almodovar finished with 2-for-5 with a run and a stolen base. O'Neill finished 2-for-5, with Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.) turning in a 2-for-4 effort with a pair of runs.

O'Neill scored the win in relief for the Knights with 3.1 innings of work. She moved to 3-3 on the season after not allowing a hit and fanning five.

A Look At Purchase: The Panthers enter Saturday's set at 7-15 overall and 4-6 in the Skyline. Purchase is coming off a pair of non-conference losses against New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Five players are hitting at least .300 for the Panthers while Victoria Capone-Froio is hitting .361 with seven doubles, four triples, 21 runs scored and 12 RBI. Kelly Agostini leads in RBI with 15 while hitting .349.

Agostini leads the Panthers in the circle as she has thrown 64.0 innings on the season. She has posted a 6.02 ERA in 12 appearances while Cassidy Montes has logged 62.0 innings and holds a 5.74 ERA.

As a team, Purchase is hitting .292 as a team with 24 doubles and seven triples. The pitching staff pitches to a 5.88 team ERA with 82 strikeouts against 64 walks and a .328 batting average against.

Scouting The Dolphins: St. Joseph's-L.I. begins the week at 9-16 overall (6-2 Skyline) after a sweep of Yeshiva on Thursday afternoon.

The Dolphins' offensive attack features six players with at least 20 at-bats hitting .300 or better. Lakisha Camacho leads the way, hitting .448 in 29 at-bats with 11 RBI. Taylor Milata is hitting .377 with 10 doubles and a team-high 13 RBI. Katie Moos has a team best 26 hits and 16 runs scored while adding 12 RBI.

Four different pitchers have thrown 19 innings or more for the Dolphins. Hannah Thompson leads in innings pitched with 57.2 while posting a 4.61 ERA. Kimberly Medina holds a 1.69 earned run average over 20.2 innings.

As a team, Mount Saint Vincent is hitting .281 and holds a .338 on-base percentage. Opponents are hitting .364 against the Dolphins, who hold a 5.76 team ERA.

What's Next: Following four Skyline contests, the Knights continues its road swing in a non-conference doubleheader against Manhattanville on Tuesday. The twinbill with the Valiants is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
