Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team plays home for the first time this season when they play host to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
At A Glance: The Knights began the conference schedule 2-0 on Sunday as they defeated Yeshiva, 14-2 and 20-3. The Mount improved to 3-9 overall on the season.
Reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week
Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) leads the Knights with a .500 batting average, three doubles and a team-high nine runs batted in.
Morgan O'Neill (Little Falls, N.J.) and
Lauren Oury (Bethpage, N.Y.) both are hitting .278 and freshman
MacKenzie Hymes (Middletown, Del.) is hitting .276. O'Neill and Hymes are tied for second in RBI with eight.
Three different players have been in the circle for the Knights in O'Neill, Hymes and
Christen Hansen (Cypress, Calif.). Hymes leads in innings pitched with 28.1 while O'Neill is the ERA leader at 2.45 over 25.2 innings. Hansen has logged 16.2 innings so far in her freshman campaign.
As a team, the Knights hold a .932 fielding percentage and a 5.94 team ERA. The Mount holds a team batting average of .254 batting average early this season and holds a .319 batting average against. As a team, the Knights are 7-8 in stolen base attempts.
Last Time Out: The Mount opened Skyline Conference play in strong fashion, posting 14-2 and 20-3 wins on the road at Yeshiva.
In game one, Mount Saint Mary outhit the Maccabees 8-4 in the opener with Lang,
Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.), and Oury each finishing with two hits. Oury doubled in the game for the Mount and scored twice, with Almodovar,
Nicolette Moustouka (Seaford, N.Y.),
Alyssa Hernandez (Middletown, N.Y.) and Lang all crossing with two runs scored.
O'Neill picked up the win in the circle with a complete game effort for the Knights. She worked 5.0 innings and allowed just one earned run while striking out six in improving to 1-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, Mount Saint Mary pounded out 17 hits and featured 11 different players with a hit. Lang finished off a big day 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs and four RBI, with Oury also going 3-for-3 with two runs and a pair driven in. Almodovar drove in two runs and scored four times with Moustouka and
Victoria Santomauro (Eastchester, N.Y.) scoring two and three runs, respectively.
Hymes picked up the win in the circle for the Mount and moved to 2-5 on the season. She allowed two earned runs on six hits, striking out four and walking two.
A Look At St. Joseph's-Brooklyn: The Bears are 7-6 (4-0 Skyline) on the season after sweeping Yeshiva and Old Westbury last weekend.
Victoria Mahoney leads in batting average with .536 while Alexis Buchanan is hitting .465 on the season. Ashleigh Hartwig leads the team in runs batted in with 17 and has one home run on the year. Vivian Tomovich leads in stolen bases with five while also hitting a home run.
Mahoney is the leader in innings with 40.2 and has six complete games with a record of 4-3. She holds a 2.93 ERA with 48 strikeouts while Jessica Mecham is second in innings with 25.2 and boasts a 4.36 earned run average.
The Bears have a .961 fielding percentage while boasting a 4.26 team ERA. The team batting average sits at .335 while stealing 20 bases on the season.
What's Next: Mount Saint Mary hits the road once again to take on SUNY New Paltz in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. and a twinbill with Western Connecticut State on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
