Staten Island, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Swimming team opened the 2019-20 season on Saturday with a 155-86 road loss at the College of Staten Island. Senior
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) led the Mount with a trio of individual wins on the day.
Kohlus opened the season by posting victories for the Knights in the 200-yard butterfly, the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly against the Dolphins. The 200-yard butterfly win came in 2:05.27, with the freestyle and 100-yard butterfly victories coming in 52.39 seconds and 56.31 seconds, respectively.
Sophomore
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) also had a strong start to the season on Saturday, posting a pair of victories and picking up a runner-up finish. Tagliareni was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke in times of 1:01.22 and 2:16.45. He went on to finish second in the 200-yard individual medley, showing a time of 2:17.74.
Junior Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) turned in a strong meet on Saturday, collecting a runner-up finish and a pair of third place finishes. Gallo took second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:20.09 and placed third in the 100-yard and 50-yard freestyle events with times of 1:04.52 and 26.17 seconds.
Senior
Sam Kenney (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) took third for the Knights in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke races, while
Philip Crandall (Ravena, N.Y.) placed third in the 200-yard freestyle and
Tyler Williams (Middlebury, Conn.) touched out third in the 200-yard individual medley in his collegiate debut.
At 0-1 on the season, Mount Saint Mary begins Skyline Conference competition on November 9 when it travels to Bronxville for a 1:30 p.m. dual meet with Sarah Lawrence.
