Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team will travel to second seed St. Joseph's-L.I. on Thursday as the two teams collide in the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship Semifinal Round. Matches at St. Joseph's are scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
At A Glance: The Knights, who won their last two conference matches of the season to clinch a berth into the championship, enter Thursday's semifinal with a 7-6 overall record. The Knights won three of their final four regular season contests, with the lone loss coming at the hands of the Golden Eagles on October 12.
The Knights feature a pair of players with at least 10 singles wins on the season, led by an 11-2 mark from senior
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.). Carnovale won five of her seven league matches at the top flight and posted an 8-2 record over her final 10 regular season decisions. Carnovale has 47 singles wins to date in her career, all at the top flight, which is good for fourth all time on the Mount's win list.
Sophomore
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) has also put together a strong season for the Mount, entering Thursday's affair with a 10-3 overall record, including a 6-1 mark in league contests. Murray produced all 10 of her wins at the fourth singles position and ranks second on the team in total singles victories.
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) holds a 9-3 singles record for the Mount, winning five of her six league tilts, which is good for third on the team. Each of her wins has come at the fifth slot and see enters Thursday's semifinal with three straight wins and an 8-2 mark in her last 10 decisions.
In doubles action, Murray and
Katrina Imperio (Campbell Hall, N.Y.) have been stellar at the third position, winning seven of their eight matches as a unit. The top pair of Carnovale and
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) have produced six victories, with
Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) and Goetz winning five times at the second position.

The Knights began the evening by taking two of the three doubles matches, with the first and third pairs cruising to victory. Carnovale and Clay posted an impressive 8-0 victory, collecting their sixth win of the season, while the pairing of Murray and Imperio improved to 7-1 with an 8-1 triumph at the third position.
In singles action, Carnovale cruised to her 11
th win of the season at the top flight following a 6-0, 6-1 win that moved her to 11-2 overall on the season and 5-2 against Skyline Conference opponents.
Clay scored her fourth victory of the season at the second slot with a tough 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7) win, with
Vernon picking up her fourth triumph at the third position with a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 win for the Mount.
The fourth, fifth and sixth singles positions continued to be a strong part of the Mount's lineup on Monday as the trio dropped just two games to the Bears. Murray blanked her opponent at the fourth position in moving to 10-3 on the season, while
Goetz posted her ninth win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 fifth position victory.
Gracie Monahan (Deer Park, N.Y.) finished off the night with her fourth win of the year at the sixth slot with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph for the Knights.
Scouting St. Joseph's: The Golden Eagles enter Thursday's match with a 9-3 overall record and winners of five of their final six regular season matches.
Amanda Post posted six wins at the top singles flight for St. Joseph's in the regular season with Nora Burnett scoring seven of the team's eight wins at the second position. Mackenzie Martocci is in the midst of a strong season with eight third singles victories, while Lindsay Charrier, Alana Caporale and Alexandra Suslan have won six matches at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
In doubles play, Post and Burnett hold an 8-3 record at the top position, with Caporale and Martocci won eight of their 10 matches at the second slot, including an unbeaten 6-0 mark against league rivals. Charrier and Erin Hickey are having a strong year at the third position with a 6-2 record for the Golden Eagles.
Regular Season Meeting: The Golden Eagles posted a 7-2 win in Newburgh on October 12.
Carnovale continued her stellar senior season in the match, battling to a hard fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 first singles victory over her opponent from the Golden Eagles. The victory improves her record at the top flight to 10-1 on the season and gives her double figures in singles wins for the third time in four years. The victory is her 46th triumph, moving her into fourth place all-time on the Mount's wins list.
Murray improved her record on the season to 8-3 overall and 8-2 at the fourth position on Saturday. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory for the Knights, giving her victories in each of her last two outings of the season.
Recent History: With the win on October 12, the Golden Eagles have won six of the last seven meetings between the two sides. Since 2007, the Mount holds a 10-7 record against St. Joseph's, but its last victory over the Golden Eagles came on October 18, 2017.
Skyline Conference Championship History: Since 2007, Mount Saint Mary has appeared in the Skyline Conference Championship nine times, advancing to the Championship Final on six occasions and winning the conference crown four times.
The Mount won four straight Skyline Conference Championships from 2009-12 and advanced to the championship final in 2008 and again in 2017.
After missing the championship three straight years from 2014-16, the Mount has qualified for the event in each of the last three seasons.
What's Next: The winners of the Mount Saint Mary and St. Joseph's semifinal will square off with the winner of Farmingdale and Yeshiva winner for the conference crown on Saturday.
