Patchogue, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team saw its fall come to a close on Thursday following a 5-1 loss at St. Joseph's-L.I. in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinal Round. Sophomore
Katie Murray (Highland Mills, N.Y.) scored the Mount's lone win in the contest.
St. Joseph's got off to a strong start after sweeping the three doubles matches, needing just two singles victories to clinch its way to the championship round on Saturday. The top pair of
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) and
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) suffered a hard fought 8-6 loss for the Knights.
Only half of the singles contests concluded on Thursday, with the Golden Eagles securing the win with victories at the second and third flights. Carnovale's match at first singles was stopped in the second set with the score 0-6, 4-3 with
Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) and
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) unfinished at the fifth and sixth slots. Goetz was in the third set with the scores 3-6, 6-2, 1-1 with Quinn in the second at 3-6, 4-3.
Murray moved into a tie for first place on the team with her win at fourth singles on Thursday. She posted an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win for the Knights on her way to moving to 11-3 overall on the season and 11-2 at the fourth position.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark at 7-7 overall.
