Men's Golf Hangs On To Defeat Mount Saint Vincent

P. Shea earns first place medalist

Harrison, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Golf team held on to defeat the College of Mount Saint Vincent 347-351 in a dual match on Monday afternoon at Willow Ridge. Sophomore Patrick Shea (Warwick, N.Y.) shot the low round of the day as he fired a five over par for the Knights.

P. Shea carded a 76 to earn himself the individual title on Monday as senior Matt Higgins (Meriden, Conn.) shot a 87 for Mount Saint Mary. Chris Shea (Warwick, N.Y.) and Matt Ropiak (Staten Island, N.Y.) both fired a 92 for the round.

Ryan Bayer (New Windsor, N.Y.) played in his second match of the season as he carded a 95 for the Mount. Billy Brumbaugh shot the low round for the Dolphins as he shot an 80.

Coach Crane: "We will definitely take the win. They kept us honest and for sure had the home course advantage. The boys dug deep and held on. Willow Ridge is a fantastic test of golf and certainly tested us today. Mount Saint Vincent is building something, just like we are trying to do. We didn't take them lightly and they made us work. We will learn from what happened today and be better on Wednesday."

The Mount returns to action on Wednesday morning when they head to the Mitchell College tournament at Shennecossett Golf Club. First tee time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
