Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team opens their 2018 season on Friday when it travels to Brooklyn to face Pratt Institute at 7:00 p.m.
At a Glance: The Knights open their season with a two-match road trip to Pratt Institute and the College of Staten Island. The match against College of Staten Island is set for 12:00 on Sunday.
The Knights return seven players from last season including Junior
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.), who garnered First Team All-Skyline Conference accolades and Sophomore
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.), who earned Second Team All-League honors.
Carnovale was also the 2016 Skyline Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
The Knights were voted second in the Skyline Conference preseason poll and look to improve on their 8-10 record, 3-3 in conference, from a season ago.
A Look At Pratt Institute: The Cannoneers are 2-0 on the season after winning a match against Rutgers-Newark, 6-3, and shutting out defending Skyline Conference champion Yeshiva, 8-0 this past weekend. They are led by senior Melanie Kania and freshman Amy Young, who have won both of their doubles matches this season. Young is also undefeated in her singles matches.
Previewing College of Staten Island: The Dolphins begin their 2018 campaign on the road at Kean University on Friday and then return home for a two-match set against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday and the Knights on Sunday.
Men's Team Begins Fall Play: The Mount Saint Mary Men's team is also in action this weekend to begin the fall portion of its schedule. The Knights play host to Bard College for a 12:00 match on Saturday afternoon.
What's Next: The Knights return home for a three-match home stand starting on Thursday, September 15 against Western Connecticut State.
