Women’s Tennis Cruises To Fourth Straight Victory

Knights blank Vaughn

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team picked up its fourth straight win on Thursday night, blanking visiting Vaughn 6-0 in a rain shortened contest. Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) remained unblemished in singles play in the victory.

The Knights got off to a quick start in the match, sweeping all three doubles contests. The top pair of Carnovale and Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) moved to 3-2 on the season with their shutout win, while the middle pair of Sarah Canzone (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Jessalyn Goetz (Bethel, N.Y.) posted the win in their first match of the season as a pair. The third team of Julia Lorenzo (Emerald Island, N.C.) and Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) also saw their first action together on Thursday, scoring an 8-0 victory.

Only three singles matches were completed on Thursday due to the weather. Carnovale pushed her first singles record to 5-0 with a 10-0 blanking of her opponent at the top flight. Clay moved to 3-2 at the second flight with an impressive 10-1 victory, while Miyanna Vernon (Liberty, N.Y.) scored a 10-1 fourth singles win and also moved to 3-2 on the season.

At 4-1 overall, Mount Saint Mary returns to action on Sunday when it plays host to Plattsburgh. First serve with the Cardinals is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
