Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team returned to Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 9-0 league win over visiting St. Joseph's-L.I. Three Knights posted 6-0, 6-0 singles wins with
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) and
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) sweeping their opponents at first doubles.
Mount Saint Mary got off to a good start in the match with three convincing wins in doubles action. In addition to the 8-0 win at the top flight,
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) and
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) scored an 8-2 win at the second position, while
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.Y.) and
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) scored an 8-3 third doubles victory.
In singles action, Anastasi led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top position, while Terry and Tiriolo added 6-0, 6-0 wins at the third and fourth positions. McGorty continued the strong start to his spring with a 6-2, 6-0 second singles win.
Benfer picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles on Saturday, while
Armando Avila (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) earning a 6-3, 6-1 sixth singles win for the Knights.
Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 6-4 overall on the season and to 2-0 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home match against USMMA on Wednesday. Match time with the Mariners is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
