Knights Close Regular Season With Sweep At Farmingdale State

Lang drives in game winning run in game one win

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Softball team finished off the regular season in strong fashion on Saturday, scoring 2-1 and 6-1 wins on the road at Farmingdale State. Sophomore Emily Lang (Westtown, N.Y.) drove in both runs in the game one win, while Cindy Connoly (Walden, N.Y.) and Bridget Bennett (Gardiner, N.Y.) posted complete game wins in the circle.

Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 2 – Farmingdale State 1
The Rams opened the scoring in the second inning when Christina Rayfield doubled and later scored on a Kimberly Basile one out single that gave Farmingdale State and early one run lead.

The one run advantage held until the top of the fifth inning when the Knights got all its scoring in the game. Bennett walked to lead off the frame and following a sacrifice, a hit from Courtney Barbara and a walk to Connoly, Lang shot a single a two-out single to left center that delivered Erin McCann (East Haven, Conn.) and Bennett with the only runs the Mount would need.

Farmingdale State had just one base runner in its final two at-bats and the Mount finished the game with a 7-6 advantage in hits. Lang led the Knights with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate with Amanda Almodovar (Goshen, N.Y.) and Barbara each finishing with a pair of hits. Almodovar stole two bases in the win and Connoly drew three walks.

Connoly picked up the win in the circle and moved to 10-8 on the season in her 13th complete game of the year. She allowed just one run on six hits. She fanned nine and walked one in the victory. Jaxie Collard pitched well in defeat for the Rams, allowing two runs on seven hits.

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 6 – Farmingdale State 1
Farmingdale State opened the scoring for the second time in game two, plating a run on a Sierra Cardenales single that delivered Jessica Lombardo in the bottom of the third for the Rams' only run of the contest.

Mount Saint Mary responded with three runs in the top of the fourth for all the scoring it would need in the game. The Knights had just one hit in the inning, taking advantage of two walks, a hit batter and a wild pitch. Morgan O'Neill (Little Falls, N.J.) delivered a run on a groundout ahead of an RBI single from Taylor Canto (Walden, N.Y.). Lauren Oury (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch to get the Knights in front 3-1.

The Knights tacked on a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pull away for the win. Canto drove in her second run of the game with a single in the sixth, before Almodovar scored on an error in the seventh and Lang drove in Barbara with the game's final run.

Barbara, Lang, Canto and Kathryn Eiler (Merrick, N.Y.) all finished with two hits, with Canto driving in two runs and Lang scoring twice and swiping two bases. Almodovar recorded a hit and scored a run for the Knights.
