Flushing, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team saw its season come to an end on Thursday evening following a 5-1 loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the semifinal round of the 2018 Skyline Conference Championship. Senior
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) posted the Mount's lone win of the night.
Anastasi closed out his stellar career for the Knights with a dominate 6-0, 6-0 win at the top singles position for the Knights. The win finished his 2018 season at 13-3 overall and with five straight wins and an 8-2 mark over his last 10 matches.
The Knights had two strong showings in doubles action on Thursday, with Anastasi and
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) holding a 7-6 lead before dropping a hard fought, back-and-forth decision at the top spot by a 9-7 score. At the second position,
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) and
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) battled, but dropped an 8-5 decision to the Mariners.
Thursday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 9-7 overall on the season.
