Flushing, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team got back into the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 road Skyline Conference win at St. Joseph's Brooklyn. Three Knights earned their ninth singles win of the season in the victory.
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) pushed his singles record to 9-3 on the season at the first position, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win for the Mount. Junior
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) also picked up his ninth win of the season and moved to 9-2 on the year, outlasting his opponent at the second position by scores of 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7).
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) rounded out the trio with nine wins with a 6-0, 6-3 third singles win for the Mount.
In the second set of singles matches, the Knights surrendered just two games to the Bears.
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 fourth singles win with
Armando Avila (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scoring an identical win at the sixth position.
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) posted a 6-0, 6-0 win for the Mount at fifth singles.
In doubles play, the Knights dropped just one game, with Anastasi and McGorty cruising to an 8-1 win at the top position. Tiriolo and Benfer at the second slot and Gallo and
Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.) at the third spot won by identical 8-0 scores.
Saturday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 7-5 overall on the season and to 3-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a trip to league rival Sarah Lawrence on Monday. First serve with the Gryphons is scheduled for in Bronxville is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
