Purchase, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team opened the 2018 Spring season on Saturday morning with a 7-2 road Skyline Conference victory at Purchase. The Knights won all three doubles matches and the first four singles decisions against the Panthers.
Matt Anastasi (Salisbury Hills, N.Y.) eased to a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win for the Knights on Saturday with
Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) outlasting his opponent at the second position by scores of 7-6, 6-4. The duo also teamed up for an 8-5 first doubles win against the Panthers.
Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) got his spring off to a fine start with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the third singles position, while freshman
Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) won a 6-4, 6-0 decision at fourth singles for the Knights.
In addition to the victory at the top position, Tiriolo teamed up with
Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) for an 8-4 second position win. Terry and
Matt Gallo (Clark, N.J.) rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-2 triumph at the third slot.
Saturday's win improves Mount Saint Mary to 4-1 overall on the season and to 1-0 in league action. The Knights will be back on the court Sunday when they take on Luther in Orlando, Fla.
