Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Swimming teams return home on Saturday afternoon to take on the College of Staten Island in a non-conference dual meet scheduled for 2 p.m.
MSMC Men At A Glance: The men picked up a 143-104 road win at Lehman, the team's first dual victory of the season last weekend. Freshman
Joseph Tagliareni (Hackettstown, N.J.) and junior
Robert Kohlus (Wading River, N.Y.) led the charge for the Knights, combing for half of the team's 10 victories on the day.
Kohlus continued his standout career for the Knights with a trio of first place individual finishes for the Knights on Saturday. He picked up first place points for the Mount in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:04.14, the 100-yard freestyle in 52.15 seconds and the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.12.
Taglaireni continued the strong start to his rookie season on Saturday with a pair of wins for the Mount. The newcomer topped the field for the Mount in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.28 and the 200-yard backstroke race in a time of 2:19.13.
Senior
Philippe Noisy (New York, N.Y.), junior
Michael Neugebauer (Newburgh, N.Y.) and sophomore
P.J. Ramsey (Plantsville, Conn.) also scored individual wins for the Knights against the Lightning. Noisy came home first in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:02.71, Neugebauer topped the field in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.56 seconds and Ramsey scored his victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.93.
In addition to their victories on Saturday, Neugebauer and Ramsey also picked up runner-up finishes for the Mount. Neugebauer took the second position in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.08, while Ramsey picked up second place points for the Knights in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.70.
Sam Kenney (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) picked up a pair of runner-up finishes against the Lightning, coming home in the runner-up position in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:46.63 and the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:22.20.
Matthew Gallo (Clark, N.J.) also had a strong day for the Knights, scoring second place finishes in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke races with times of 1:04.81 and 2:24.09, respectively.
Mount Saint Mary dominated the relay events on Saturday, winning the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle events. The team of Kohlus, Neugebauer, Ramsey and Tagliareni won the medley race by better than 10 seconds with a time of 1:52.77, while the squad of Neugebauer, Ramsey, Noisy and Tagliareni edged out their opponents in the freestyle race with a time of 1:37.19.
MSMC Women At A Glance: The women earned their second dual meet victory, 151-54, in a road non-conference meet at Lehman. The Knights won 10 events in the meet, with six different swimmers scoring individual wins on the day.
Senior
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) continued to dominate the freestyle events for the Knights, taking the top spot in both the 200 and 500-yard races on Saturday. Her initial win, the 200-yard race, came in a time of 2:05.95 before she claimed the 500-yard race by over 30 seconds with a time of 5:53.33.
Sophomore
Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) also claimed the top spot in a pair of events for the Knights, winning the 200 and 100-yard butterfly races. Barber picked up first place points in the 200-yard race in a time of 2:30.99 before dominating the 100-yard event and winning by nearly 40 seconds with a time of 1:08.45. Newcomer
Amanda Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.) turned in a strong swim for the Knights, taking the final individual event of the meet, posting a time of 2:46.73 in the 200-yard individual medley.
Mount Saint Mary went first and second in five events against the Lightning, starting with the 100-yard breaststroke.
Taylor Hollis (East Hartford, Conn.) took the top spot for the Mount in a time of 1:22.64 and was followed by
Elizabeth Farragher (Wantagh, N.Y.) who came home in 1:26.67. The same duo took first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke race in 3:02.41 and 3:11.87, respectively.
Laynie Callo (Milton, N.Y.) and
Brigit Gardner (Staten Island, N.Y.) took the top two spots in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 29.66 and 30.54 seconds, with Gardner also following McNamee in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:35.58.
Freshman
Jillian Bunch (Newburgh, N.Y.) and
Breanne Greaves (Hamilton, N.J.) took the top two positions in the 100-yard freestyle in times of 1:00.56 and 1:09.87 with sophomore
Shayla McCarroll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) scoring a pair of second place finishes, taking the runner-up spot in both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke races.
Mount Saint Mary opened the day by winning the 200-yard medley relay race. The team of
Daley O'Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.), Hollis, Barber and McNamee swam a winning time of 1:42.67.
What's Next: The Knights will host Sarah Lawrence in the first Skyline Conference dual meet of the season on Saturday, November 10 at 1 p.m.
