Knights Open Skyline Competition With Victory Over Sarah Lawrence

Knights win seven events in league win

Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team won its fourth straight decision on Saturday with a 124-63 Skyline Conference triumph over Sarah Lawrence. The Knights won seven events on the day, led by two each from Shayla McCarroll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.).
 
McCarroll turned in a strong day for the Knights with victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard backstroke. The IM triumph came in a time of 2:29.85 before she took the top spot in the backstroke in 2:24.59.
 
McNamee continued her standout career in the pool for the Mount with victories on Saturday in both the 1,650-yard and 100-yard freestyle. The distance victory against the Gryphons came in 20:13.62, while the 100-yard race was won in 59.28 seconds.
 
Sophomore Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) turned in a strong day for the Knights with a win in the 200-yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Barber's win came in a time of 2:13.31, while her second place showing came in a time of 2:30.37.
 
Mount Saint Mary also received strong showings on Saturday from Brigit Gardner (Staten Island, N.Y.), Amanda Daigle (Trumbull, Conn.), Daley O'Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Jillian Bunch who all scored second place finishes. Gardner scored runner up points in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races, O'Keefe took second in both the 200-yard individual medley and 200-yard backstroke, Daigle took second in the 200-yard freestyle and Bunch scored a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.
 
The Knights also had a strong day in the relay events, winning both the 400-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle races. The medley team of McCarroll, Taylor Hollis (East Hartford, Conn.), Barber and Bunch won in a time of 4:34.12, while the quartet of Bunch, Daigle, O'Keefe and McNamee won the freestyle race in 4:06.49.

Saturday's win pushes Mount Saint Mary to 4-0 overall on the season and to 1-0 in league action. Next up for the Knights is the two-day Diamond City Invitational in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on November 17-18.
