Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team suffered a Skyline Conference defeat on Wednesday night, falling on the road at Farmingdale State by a tight 5-4 decision. Junior
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) remained unbeaten in singles play for the Knights.
Carnovale moved to 6-0 at the top singles flight on Wednesday, scoring one of three singles victories for the Knights. She outlasted Farmingdale State's Kayla Reidy by a 6-1, 1-6, 10-5 score for her sixth victory of the season.
Freshmen
Sarah Canzone (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and
Katie Murray (Highland Falls, N.Y.) continued their strong rookie campaigns for the Knights, scoring wins at the fifth and sixth positions. Canzone moved to 4-1 on the season, including 4-0 at the fifth position, with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Murray pushed her singles record to 5-1, including 4-0 at sixth singles, with a 7-6, 6-1 triumph against the Rams.
Canzone and Murray teamed up for the Knights' only doubles win of night, taking the third position by an 8-6 score. The win moves the duo to 2-0 together on the season.
Wednesday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 4-3 overall on the season and to 1-1 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Knights is a home conference date with Purchase on Saturday. First serve with the Panthers is slated for 11:00 a.m.
