Men’s Tennis Returns To Action With Win Over Sage

Knights win four of six singles matches

Newburgh, N.Y. – Playing its second fall match of the season, the Mount Saint Mary College Men's Tennis team scored at 6-3 win over visiting Sage on Wednesday evening. The Knights won four of the six singles matches and the top two doubles contests to earn the win over the Gators.
 
Mount Saint Mary got off to a good start in the match after taking both first and second doubles from the Gators. Senior Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) and sophomore Jaden Tiriolo (Cheshire, Conn.) scored an 8-1 win at the top position, with Shane Terry (Southampton, N.Y.) and Charles Benfer (Milton, N.Y.) blanking their opponents at the second position.
 
McGorty finished off a strong match for the Knights with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory at the top singles flight as the Mount took the first four positions. McGorty improved to 1-1 in singles play on the fall with the victory.
 
Terry won his second match in as many outings at the second position on Wednesday with a 6-0, 6-3 victory for the Mount, while Tiriolo moved to 2-0 at the third position with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking in his singles contest. Benfer finished off a trio of Knights to win their second match of the fall after completing a 7-5, 6-1 fourth singles victory.
 
Wednesday's win moves Mount Saint Mary to 2-0 on the season heading into the traditional spring campaign.
