Newburgh, N.Y. – Returning to competition for the first time in 2018, the Mount Saint Mary College Women's Swimming team was dealt a 175-87 Skyline Conference loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Junior
Kyra McNamee (Yonkers, N.Y.) paced the Knights with a pair of wins on Saturday.
McNamee continued her standout junior season with victories in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She scored her initial win of the day in a time of 2:03.73, before scoring first place points in the 500-yard race with a time of 5:34.19.
Senior
Marissa Catania (Rocky Hill, Conn.) picked up the Mount's other win of the day, topping the field in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her win came in 1:13.70 and she went on to finish second for the Knights in the 200-yard breaststroke race in 2:39.02.
Freshman Daley O'Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.) had strong day with a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a third place showing in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while classmate
Shayla McCarroll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) took third for the Mount in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke races.
Katie Barber (Shelton, Conn.) continued a strong rookie season for the Knights with a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:32.65 and went on to place third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:08.31.
Lauren Schroeder (Wantagh, N.Y.) added a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, with
Samantha McGregor (Highland Mills, N.Y.) showing third in the 200-yard butterfly and second in the 100-yard butterfly.
Mount Saint Mary took second place points on Saturday in each of the two relay events. The team of McCarroll, Catania, Schroeder and McNamee opened the meet with a time of 2:01.36 in the 200-yard medley race, before the squad of O'Keefe,
Brigit Gardner (Staten Island, N.Y.), Schroeder and McNamee finished the 400-yard freestyle event in 4:08.53.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary to 7-2 overall and to 5-1 in conference action. Next up for the Knights is a trip to Bard on Friday for a 4:00 p.m. meet with the Raptors.
