Newburgh, N.Y. – The Mount Saint Mary College Women's Tennis team saw its four match winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon following a 6-3 loss to league rival St. Joseph's-L.I. Sophomore
Michelle Carnovale (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored her team leading sixth singles win of the season in the contest.
Carnovale pushed her personal winning streak to five matches and moved to 6-2 on the season with a hard fought 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win at the top singles position. She is the only Mount player with more than five wins and one of two players with a 2-1 record against league opponents.
Freshman
Victoria Clay (Saint James, N.Y.) moved above .500 in singles action on Saturday after outlasting her opponent at fourth singles. Clay improved to 4-3 on the season and joined Carnovale at 2-1 in league play with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 triumph for the Knights.
Emily Quinn (Montgomery, N.Y.) scored the Mount's only other win on the day with her third singles win of the season. She moved to a perfect 3-0 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 sixth singles win over the Golden Eagles.
Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Mary back to the .500 mark overall at 4-4 and to 1-2 against Skyline Conference opponents. Next up for the Knights is a home date with 2016 conference champion Farmingdale State on Tuesday. Match time with the Rams is set for 6:00 p.m.
